45 Colt factory dup loads

Guys,

I'm looking for "standard" 45 Colt loads for a SAA clone. I've got W231&HP38, TrailBoss, Bullseye and Herco powders but I'm out of Unique. I will be using 250-255gr RNF bullets. Are there any "universally good loads" for the 45 Colt like there are for 38-Special and 45-Auto?

any of those powders would work. i would pick trailboss or HP-38/W231. but all would be fine. i would go with 6.8 grains of W231 or ------------- 5.5gr. trail boss. note the trail boss load is going to be alot slower. you can go to hodgdons website for the load data, the data i provided is out of my notes as most accurate with a lee 255gr. RNFP

Probably the "universal" load for .45 Colt is 8-8.5 grains Unique under a 250 grain lead pill. Of those you mention I'd probably go Herco. Any will work. A 250 grain bullet at around 800-900 fps is pretty close to factory, IMO.

W231 is one of the powders I use in the 45 Colt, the other is HS-6.

7.0gr W231 under a 250gr LRN bullet is a great and accurate standard 45 Colt load.
