Why is there plenty of load data for 44 mag using universal, but none for 45 colt ruger only loads? The max load for 250 grain cast bullets is 7.8 grains. Hodgdon lists this load at 941fps. I believe the speer manuel says it takes almost a whole grain more powder to get this velocity. Also unique is supposed to be about the same as universal and those loads. All for I believe 9.5 grains.

"Ruger Only" .45 Colt loads have much higher FPS than Universal can provide. It takes a slow powder like AA #9, Enforcer, H110/W296, N110, etc.

Universal might be a good choice for the 20,000 PSI .45 Colt Loads. I don't know though, as I haven't really studied them.

I don't understand how it can get you 1246fps in a 240 grain 44 mag.

It's a simple matter of pressure. It would do OK in .45 Colt at Ruger only pressures as well, but to me the whole idea of Ruger Only loads was max velocity. Speer # 13 shows a Ruger Only load of Unique that only gives 1079 with a 260 Gr JHP. I don't see the point of it. You can do nearly that in .45 Colt without resorting to Ruger Only pressures.

Speer shows Universal loads for normal .45 Colt, but not Ruger Only .45 Colt loads. Why? Dunno, unless they just showed old data and didn't bother to test Universal for that application.

Maybe someone else can clear things up. :)
