Has anyone tried making very light bp loads with a round ball in 45colt? I've seen refrences to them including 8gr of powder and wondered if an air space in the case would be permissible given the mimimal charge?
There should be NO airspace when loading BP. I really like loading .45 Colt case with 18 grains by weight of Hodgdon's 777 FFg, 1/2 a Circle Fly lubed .460 wad, 457 round ball, crimped just past the max diameter. Little or no compression, just enough to leave no airspace. It's a very accurate load with my Uberti Remington NMA w/R&D cyl., and light recoil,.....but plenty of smoke & boom.
