I have been pondering and researching this for a bit and have found that even though many AR compatible cartridges are chambered in mini actions such as the Howa mini, CZ 527, etc., there is a conspicuous absence of the 450 Bushmaster or 458 SOCOM. Are they just too big?

Another observation. When chambered in bolt action rifles, even bolt guns that have AR mag bottoms for other cartridges, there is not one for the 450. An example being, the Ruger American series. There are AR mag variants for 223 and 350 Legend but not 450 Bushmaster.

Also even custom builders seem to specifically avoid smaller actions with the 450. I have seen countless Rem 700 custom 450 builds but not one Model 7.

Could I buy a 450 BM RAR (which I have already) and an AR mag 350 Legend RAR, swap bottom "metal" and use a 450 BM AR mag and be peachy?

I should note, this is just a musing, not a rant or a specific want necessarily. Just an observation. Still it would seem to be a marketing advantage to a certain manufacturer if they offered it. Maybe 450 BM sales are too low volume to care.

If anyone has insight or examples of where I am wrong let me know.

I guess when I have done the research I have done I am not surprised by the crickets.

Time to start experimenting.

I had to bolt together my own using a Savage short action. I have bottom metal for both AICS or Savage Axis magazines - nothing that takes AR15 pattern.

Two guesses. 450 and 458 have a lot of recoil. A lightweight gun is probably not what people are looking for. Also, these rounds were designed around the idea of using them in an AR so people are not interested in using them in a bolt action.

Then why is the 350 Legend Ruger American Ranch with AR mags exist? The 350 Legend was designed for ARs as well.

That is really the question I am asking. If this 350 Legend in the RAR exists, why doesn’t a 450 BM version also exist (with the AR mags). All it would take is a different bottom end as the base rifle already exists.

My RAR in 450 weighs 6lbs 12oz loaded with scope. Pretty light.
