.452 XTP Hornady bullet in a .45 auto?

Greetings. I use an LAR Grizzly in .45 win mag for hunting. Recently I wanted to experiment with heavier XTP bullets for my deer loads but their heaviest
.451 diameters only went to 230 grains. I saw they had heavier ones at 250 and 300 grains but were .452. So I ordered some and loaded just a few up to test the water. They will not go into my chamber; just too tight. Is it fair to assume that .452 jacketed cannot be used for an auto chambered for .45? Can I possibly use these bullets for any other .45 autos, like a Colt Officers
.45acp that I have, or should you simply NOT use .452 jacketed in these chambers? (I know that .452 lead is OK) Thanks for your help...

Would they not go into the chamber at all or did they not go all the way in. They could be loaded too long. I have shot some .452 bullets, (250 Gr intended for .45 Colt) in the .45 ACP before with no problems.

I loaded them to the same OAL as all of my other loads for the .45 mag. I certainly assume they were not too long; they were well short of going in far enough...

If you get a bullet that heavy to OAL specs in the ACP, how much room is left for powder? And what kind of FPS are you getting? I would be concerned that it isn't enough to expand the XTP or penetrate worth a darn.

Cosmoline - I agee with your question/concern, but my only question right now is the diameter issue. FYI, however, the OAL of the 250 gr XTP is the same as the Ranier 200 gr SWC that I use for most of my reloading (.45 mag and .45 acp). The 300 gr. XTP is considerably longer though. That one is probably a problem, even likely in the longer .45 mag case...

I have loaded 0.452" lead bullets in .45ACP and they would not chamber in a decent 1911-clone, but they would in a Glock .45ACP. The difference is in tolerances/clearances and the Glock is alot looser than a decent 1911.

Lee full length resizing die might do the trick and make it work.
