My S&W 625-8 JM has cylinder throats that measure .453". Should I be OK using swaged .452 LRN (Hornady 200 gr LSWC)? Or do I need to find some bullets that are sized .453 or even .454?

My purpose is IDPA level accuracy, not 25 yard bullseye.

Thanks!

Oh, well I'm sure they'll work. Swaged tends to be soft. Probably too soft for "major" power factor without leading a bit. But every gun is a little different. You might have no problems.

Your throats are actually just about perfect. Lead bullets tend to suffer when stuffed through throats that are too small.

I had my 629s throats reamed out as I shoot 99/100 lead. If I recall correctly, they were taken to 0.431" or 0.432" for my .44 Specials and Magnums.

Nah. I've driven Speer's swaged 158 grain LSWCHPs to 1250 fps with no lead fouling, and their .452 SWCs to 950-1,000 with no problems.

With a .453 throat, the soft lead should bump up nicely and actually need to "size down" to enter the barrel, making for a good gas seal.

OK...so now I'm confused. I was looking at the .453" throats as a "bad thing". I am often wrong, so this doesn't surprise me.

My Model of 1989 625-6 has throats that measure .451" (which I thought was normal/optimal). What do I do about that?

Ream them out.

Throats should be .0005 to .001 over bullet diameter, which should be at or .001 over groove diameter, or if not, soft enough to bump up to it.

A full power .44 mag load with even a very hard cast bullet WILL swell up and obturate any normal bore. Fire SWCs into something soft, recover the bullets and be astonished at what happens to that truncated cone nose shape - it often sets back and becomes a near wad cutter!

That is outstanding! Thanks!

thats one of the things we have come to expect from Missouri Bullet, outstanding customer service and shipping times. Which is hard to believe considering how many bullets they make.

Just out of curiosity Brad, what is peak production like nowadays, how many bullets a week?

Well, it's down to about 50-60k/day for the time being. We lost 2 employees recently and we're struggling to keep up. Right after the employees separated we got slammed with 3 rather huge distributor orders on top of everything else. Jo Ann and I are working 12-14 hours day and full shifts on weekends.

..but this isn't a bad problem to have.

Ah, there it is. I wondered what the hold-up was.

I placed an order today at 1:47 PM and I didn't get my shipping notification until 1:53 PM. I knew something wasn't right.

I hope it doesn't take to long for ya'll to get some more help up and trained.

Seedtick

:)

You won't have to wait very long. We received your order 14 minutes ago and it's already packed.

Thank you.

Brad

You guys are slipping. I thought your orders usually shipped the day before?

Did somebody close up the wormhole? ;)

Looks like I need to pack up and head west to Missouri and do some stompin' around in the shop! Lost two huh? Was it the bread and water or the mandatory beatings that did them in?

Love to have you here, Levi. It wasn't the diet or the beatings, rather, more a result of the general increase in the stress level around here due to the Nightmare Employee(tm)'s getting us ensnarled in OSHA's web. We're still still digging out from that one; although every citation, fine, and allegation was withdrawn, the ex-NE(tm) has filed a Whistleblower retaliation action against us. We'll easily beat that one, too, but there is so little time to do all that stuff while trying to run a manufacturing business. But it'll get better and we'll wind up with better people that we can trust and Jo Ann and I can have a life again.

Yup, and in Washington they is wondering why employers aren't hiring more employees. Perhaps if they called back the various inspectors and cut out the red tape you might be able to do more. Right now starting a new operation in China must look tempting... :banghead: :cuss:

MO bullet is the best! I don't know what some of us would do without you guys!
we'll come down from Lee's summit and give you a hand!

where can you get retail service like that! he gets on THR to let you know your order shipped!

Love your bullets man!
