I am set up reloading wise for the 458 win mag. I was going to get another Ruger #1 but Ruger don't make it in 458 they do offer it in 458Lott. I was wonting to know if the 458 shoots well in the Lott or not. Or should I just get the Lott reloading dies and brass.

tcrocker, a couple of the guys I shoot with run Lott's ,I shoot a regular .458 WInnie myself. The big advantage for the Lott is you "can" shoot regular .458 Winnie ammo in it. They have told me they don't do it on a regular basis. As you know the Lott is a smidgen longer then the Winnie, this causes more bullet jump if you seat the bullets to the cannalure, and apparantly causes them to lose accuracy. But this may just be an excuse for them getting outshot at the range. :)

Just my opinion with no scientific backup, spring for the Lott dies and cases.

STOP!!!

This talk of more big bores is more than my wallet can handle! I've always been interested in the 458 Lott, but settled on a 45/70...it was a capacity thing :p

But I do love those Ruger's how does that thing shoot anyhow?

The #1 I had and sold:cuss: I hand loaded it with 500gr rond nose at 2100 fps it would make your eyes and head hurt after 3 shots. But it was a lot of fun.

You can use .458 Win dies for the Lott. I got a No.1 Lott but haven't shot it a great deal. First ammo through it was Win mag and it did .75" at 50 yards, 3 shots, factory sights. Better than I expected.

I tried some Lyman Schmitzers at too high velocity. Not good. Another gun I need to shoot more....
