I need some advice on what kind of magazine I need for the socom I have heard just a regular 5.56 mag will work.

I modified a few usgi mags for the socom by opening the front of the mag just a bit and slightly shortening the feed lips. It wouldn't run reliably without the mods. That's my gun though. And I didn't use a tromix barrel, supposedly they are the most likely to feed from a gi mag.

My radical upper fed fine from any of the 556 magazines I could find locally, except with 300 grain flat points loaded short. I had to notch the front of the magazines to get clearance for those.

My buddy's on the other hand only runs from magazines that have single stack followers installed.

So it might be a try and see kind of thing....

I use 20 round straight metal mags. Of course they hold fewer rounds. I did put in a single stack follower to insure a clean feeds for the last round. I also have one 10 rounder for bench shooting and for when a smaller mag might be more appropriate.
