I modified a few usgi mags for the socom by opening the front of the mag just a bit and slightly shortening the feed lips. It wouldn't run reliably without the mods. That's my gun though. And I didn't use a tromix barrel, supposedly they are the most likely to feed from a gi mag.

My radical upper fed fine from any of the 556 magazines I could find locally, except with 300 grain flat points loaded short. I had to notch the front of the magazines to get clearance for those.
My buddy's on the other hand only runs from magazines that have single stack followers installed.
I use 20 round straight metal mags. Of course they hold fewer rounds. I did put in a single stack follower to insure a clean feeds for the last round. I also have one 10 rounder for bench shooting and for when a smaller mag might be more appropriate.
