what is better and why? i realize neither is practical or necessary but i'm just curious.

it seems like its just clarkcustomguns vs acecustom45s to do the same job and i'm wondering who's winning.

The .460 and the .45 Super wildcats have very different performance envelopes, it's not an apples-to-apples comparison.

As an aside, I would do a fair amount of homework before making mods for either. A few years ago I wanted to uprate one of my .45's to .460 to use as a "bear" gun in the mountains here. Even bought a ramped, comp'd Clark barrel. But after doing more and more research, I dropped the plans as too many knowledgable gunsmiths told me about the .460 wrecking good guns. I believe 1911Tuner, among others, has spoken about this subject both here and at m1911.org. Use the "search" feature and you can find lots of discussion on this over the past few years.

I suspended my plans on a .460 Rowland 1911 build as well (also originally for a trail gun in black bear country) after finding it was brutal on the 1911 platform and perhaps a bit more punishing than the design was suitable for.

Not saying it can't or shouldn't be done, but I decided a G20 with aftermarket barrel, heavier spring and hot hardcast RNF 200gr loads might give me less hassle and worries, not to mention a bit more at the tap if I happen to miss a lot during a mauling. ;)

I once thought long and hard of getting a Clark 460 conversion.

I have since got a couple of Smith 44 Magnums.........I now see the light.

Also the 44 and reloading were made for each other.
