Flints costing what they do today, here's a little 3 picture on how to sharpen
them. I use a small hammer with a brass head. Be careful! the flint chips are sharp and can cut .

Thank You. I gave up on cap guns. Don't think they will ever catch on. I will
shoot nothing but flint from now on. If the one above wanted us to shoot
percussion guns, he would have scattered caps all over the ground. You can
pick up flint almost anywhere.

Well,I haven't given up on them, but after California restricts my handgun ammo, and introduces short life primers, and I finally run out of musket caps and # 11's,it's nice to know I'll still be shooting!

Is this true that you're not going to shoot your new Yazel .36 single shot percussion pistol or the Rob Lewis match revolvers anymore and are handing them over to your better half?

BHP fan.. What did you mean when you stated 'short life primers'? Are they going to make them so they just sort of go dead if not used within a certain period of time? I know they were going to try something like that with all modern cased ammo back during the 90's. What is 'normal' range of the typical flint lock? Are the barrel's normally rifled up good on a flint lock?....

Something I found that works well for keeping my flint sharp ....Instead of useing leather as a wrap in the jaws of the hammer ...I flatten out a lead round ball and cut a wrap out of it ............the lead has no bounce when the flint strikes the frizzen which keeps it sharp every time you shoot ...
I use only knapped black english flints and ....if it doesn`t spark on the first drop of the hammer it always does on the second .
I get alot less faliure to spark hits with the lead wrap though .......but it will happen sooner or latter .....
I haven`t had to use my knapping hammer since I started useing the lead wrap .
If I could only have one rifle on a trek ...my flintlock would be my first choice .
Real black powder can be dryed out and still used ...and flints can be wet and still work .
This makes a cap and ball gun quite finikey on a trek ..
Anyone that thinks a flint lock is the finikey one ....has never owned a well tuned rock lock .

I am shooting nothing but my "Lewis" Flintlock. We just had a 3-day shoot
at our club and I used it. Even beat the wife by a X. That hasen't happend
in 5 years. Came in 2nd in the pistol agg. had a real bad 25 yd target. Difference between 2nd and 1st was only 3 pts. I just like shooting flint better. Feel like I'm more intune with mother earth. You would have to shoot
flint to understand that. The 50 yd target, I could not get out of the black
bull. Just held it up there and all 10 shots were in the black. Oh the barrel
is rifled 1-16 twist .32 cal rifling is .0075 deep. Now if I can just find a way
to convert my revolver to Flint????? I use Missouri White Thunder hand knapped flints. Made from Missouri white chert. Come
from St. Louis, You get 13 for 10.00 any size. You only have to pay for them if you like them. Rich Pierce Flints.

TC

kwhi43,

Did you ever shoot the TC? Or is it just another closet Queen?

Hi Gene

PS Did you know that the canoe gun has a Damascas Twist barrel. It shoots well and I am trying to figure out how to bring out those beautiful "true colors" better.

GOTC,it seems California is a 'test state' to see just how much they can cram down our throats, gun law wise.So far the ''short life primers' or 'half life' primers are just lawmakers fantasy. The idea surfaces, and gets quickly vetoed or voted down, but then so did the other versions of AB962,that the Governator just passed.

AB962, okay thanks. I 'm going to to get a couple of my buddies to get the latest on it tonight and get it back to me Flash Priority. Yes, I have the authority and stroke to ask for a copy of it....
