4X Scope Recommendation for Ruger 10-22

I've had a Simmons 22 mag 4x on my 22 for a long time. It never let me down in the squirrel woods. I've had a Simmons 22mag 3x9 on my savage 22mag with equally good results. I don't think they are as durable as some of the higher priced scopes but I think they'll do what you need.

I recommend Burris Droptine 22 scope, I have one on my grandson's 10/22. My Buddy has an Athlon on one of his CZ's and I like it alot. I have a 30 year old 4x Bushnell on a 10/22 that's still good. I have a Bushnell and Simmons on a couple rifles, they work but I like the Athlon and Burris better.

Well, I dug around on the shelf under my workbench and lo and behold there lay an old Bushnell 2-8x32 compact scope I'd forgotten about. More magnification than I wanted, but I mounted it anyway and I'll keep it set on 2X for easy use for the wifey. I started at 25 yds. using Winchester bulk 36 gr. HP. The sight-in session was a booger as the scope adjustments were nowhere near 1/4" per click at 100 yds. It was one of those endeavors in which 16 clicks (1" at 25 yds.) might not change the POI at all, or it might move it 3". I got it "close" at 25 and set up a 50 yd. target and commenced to chase the shots all over the place. After firing over 30 rounds at 50 yds. I finally got the group pretty well centered, certainly good enough for a coyote across the yard-

Just for gits and shiggles I fired a few at my 100 yd. 12" steel target, holding about an inch or so below the top of the target. The group wasn't too bad-

All's well that ends well, I suppose.

Have you considered a red dot sight? The 10/22 is a smallish, quick handling rifle and in low light conditions, a red dot would allow you to hit anything that you can see with your naked eye. It also won't add any bulk.

I'm old and set in my ways, I don't think I'm ready for a sighting system that requires a battery.

Analog Red Dot? (Rear ghost ring and orange front bead post).

:D

You know, my old 1903 that has been slightly sporterized, wear a Williams receiver sight with a Williams Twilight aperture that I found in with some gun parts I bought-

I wrote it off as a gimmick until I looked through it. The brass insert provides some amazing contrast and really helps in low light. So I'd say it's another version of an analog Red Dot!

Another vote for a Simmons 22mag 4X. Newer ones have a quick-focus ring. I have a number of them on 10/22's

But I've also been amazed at the clarity and convenience of a Tru-glo/Field&stream 4X scope (seems to be the same scope marked different). Short, light, just works.

@35 Whelen, I'm generally more of an analog guy myself, but I just put a red dot on my 10/22, first red dot I've ever owned. Turn one knob to light it up, put the dot on the target, and go to town. So far, I like it. Just food for thought.

THANK YOU. I can't believe it took us 24 posts to get here.

He's gone on to further qualify it for us with this "without spending a bunch of money."

And another 18 posts for you to figure it out.

I'm working out of town part of the week now and am having a serious coyote problem around the house; Coyotes-2, Chickens-0 so far.

I keep an M1 Carbine, SKS and Ruger 10-22 in the laundry room gun rack, but they're all iron/aperture sights which can be difficult to see in low light. I want to put an inexpensive 4X scope on the Ruger for when I'm gone and the wife has the coyote killing duties.

Suggestions?

Obviously the only answer is an ACOG with a piggyback RMR! Ok maybe I'm just trying to live vicariously through you lol. Not going to lie I put a basic 3-10 Simmons 44Mag on my CZ457 Pro Varmint 22lr and it does the job as a plinker rifle... Fixed 4x scopes are kinda a niche thing as in either you are buying a 50 dollar NCStar scope or a 1000 dollar ACOG it seems like there is no in between unless you count the new primary arms prism sights which I don't think they make a 4x, but they do make a 5x and a 3x.
