Hello friends and a good Sunday to you. As some of you may know, the Russian ammo ban of 2021 has many concerned about the supply of calibers such as 7.62x39mm and 5.45x39mm. While the economics and long term impacts are a hotly debated subject at the moment, fans of the Kalashnikov (AK) style rifles do have an alternative.

What may come as a surprise to many is that various 5.56x45mm/.223 Remington chambered AKs have been historically and are currently imported into this country. These are usually not half-baked civilian pandering examples, yet arms based on the select-fire variants of actual military AKs chambered for this intermediate NATO round.

Nations such as Poland, Serbia, and others utilized 5.56mm NATO Kalashnikov style rifles as service weapons for their armed forces. Since the announcement of the Russian ammo ban, much interest has been generated in these weapons and from all reports they have become a hot seller.

A young YouTuber and gun store owner by the name of Misha has many videos that go in depth about AK (and other) platforms and he is one of the very best sources for all things Kalashnikov. He just yesterday posted a film concerning the above mentioned weapons that I have found very topical and interesting and figured I’d share it with the group for those with questions about the variants available on the open market:

AK rifles have gained a strong following in recent years in the United States with many users enjoying their sheer simplicity, durability, reliability, and history. While sometimes derided as “evil commie guns of the enemy” by some, in fact many of our closest military allies utilize AKs and to claim these inanimate objects are “evil” sounds shockingly like anti-gun rhetoric. But we won’t go there.

Thanks guys and God bless,

Misha/"Mishaco" is known as a human encyclopedia regarding quite a number of guns, their importation histories, and comparative assets and drawbacks.

In this video he answers a viewer's question about the Arsenal SAM-5. His 7 is not available.
Here he also discusses potential changes in demand for AKMs (at 53:10) in light of the tentative ban on future Russian ammo import Renewals etc. Folks, this is just a Tiny sample of what he discusses on a wide range of videos.

One of my AK builds is a AK74 with a Bulgarian 5.56x39 barrel. I love that rifle. It's accurate and reliable. It runs reliably with 5.45 20 rounds magazines.

I should have never sold my Saiga 223 20” barrel
Yep, I'm a Saiga seller too. Misha is an impressive source of information and doubly so considering the fact that he is blind and the business and lil nuances he discusses are very "visual" things.

I stumbled across Misha a while back when I stumbled across a Browning 1919 belt fed video he did and I got sucked in and watched a bunch of his videos. He has a very impressive collection and I would have to think his breadth of knowledge on firearms is very unique....
