How far and how short has 50bmg case been played with or .416 barret for that matter?

Theoretically what if you were to trim the 50 case to ⅓ the length so 33mm or so, and neck it down to oh i don't know .284 .270 or .264 Which puts it in around 95 grains of h20 theoretically. So we're now way mini action in theory as well. 1 in 8 or 1 in 7.5 twist. Let's go 20 or 22 inch barrel. Any thoughts?

(If were trimming the .416 barret let's cut it by 50% which is going to put are case length to 40mm and slightly less than 100gr of h20 capacity)

Hopefully this will get theoretical feedback. This is a semi serious thought

You'll have an extremely overbore round that will go through barrels quickly.

Necking the 50 BMG case up and not shortening it is a better idea. Rounds like the 14.5mm JDJ, 620FE, the U.S. militaries .60 cal. and some others looked to get away from the over bore situation.

Problem with this is that now you created a round and rifle that you need to have people willing to buy. Plus you'll have to wildcat your own brass or pay to have someone else do it. That and we haven't even talked about custom dies...

Another consideration is the 50 BAT or M48A1 spotter tracer round. They took a 50 BMG case, cut it down and stuck an 800+ gr projo in it. You could use this brass to neck down/wildcat and make a different caliber round.

Although it might be easier to wildcat the 50 BMG case as finding the above brass can be hard, pricey and you don't want the ones with the extended primer tubes inside the case.

Some things to consider but do a search on 50 BMG wildcat rounds. Someone probably did it already and you can read how well or bad it went.
