Heres one of my faveorite pics of my 10yr old, at the time, touching off a Barrett!
It was just as much fun standing behind it, as it was firing! The blast is awesome, evident in the last pic. The empties would jump a few feet in the air, with every shot:D

A buddy of mine has one and takes it to the range fairly often. It draws a lot of attention but really isn't as much fun as you might think. The blast from the muzzle brake is rather unpleasant and after a dozen rounds you feel beat up from it. Can't have anything on the bench around you cause that will get knocked around too. Not many places with really long shooting ranges to really make use of it. Lots of people will ask to shoot it which is a bit annoying as each pull of the trigger costs a few bucks. Some ranges don't like them because they either don't have enough clear space down range to safely allow shooting a bullet that will travel that far, some of them worry that the back stops will get torn up too much.

On the plus size it feels really neat to pull back that charging handle and let it ka-chunk forward :)

I'm still waiting on somebody to post some pics after taking a 50 BMG deer hunting.

I really want a 50 BMG, might have to look at getting one of those single shot uppers for my AR.

Nice rifle! :D

Like bang bang mentioned, there are alternatives if you want to get into .50 BMG shooting but you don't want to shell out full price for a Barrett. Bohica Arms and Spider arms both sell single-shot uppers that pin on to any AR-15 lower receiver. Armalite sells a single-shot precision in several calibers including .50 BMG, I think they start around $2500.

Remember a couple of things. THIS IS NOT CHEAP. If you have a rifle capable of 2000+ meter range, you must spend on real optics for it. NOT the bargain hunting scopes. You could EASILY spend another grand on the scope. You will spend a few hundred dollars on ammo just to get it zeroed and becoming familiar with it.

Also remember, this is not something that you can just pick up and learn instantly. There is a reason it's so ridiculous to claim that any terrorist can pick up one of these weapons and start doing serious damage. You learn this in stages. If you can't pick up a regular .22 with iron sights and make ragged 1" holes at 100 yards, you probably don't need to play with a precision .30 caliber rifle at 500 plus yards. If you haven't mastered the .30 caliber rifle, you aren't going to impress anyone with a .50 caliber rifle. Make sense?

I had a Serbu BFG .50 with a Super Sniper on it. The Super Sniper is .50 rated and is only $320 to boot. I had to move to NYC so I had to sell it. It was a really fun range toy though. I would hate to have to feed that sucker these days.

Mokwepa-

I am fortunate enough to own a Barrett rifle. Mine is the Model 99 bolt action. What a beast!

Here she sits, in the foreground from L to R is a 50 BMG round, 30-06 round, and .223 round. They really don't convey just how BIG this rifle is, but they help to lend at least some sense of scale.

Just for fun here is my Barrett beside my "shorty" M16. God Bless America. :)

And finally for your viewing pleasure, a range trip with the Barrett and some Spotter/Tracer ammo. That was a lot of fun. Of note is the very loud report of the rifle then the delay and loud "KA-WHACK" of the round impacting the target, oh yeah, the trace and flash on impact are kind of neat too! Try to forgive my goofy narrative at the end. This thing is just too much fun. :)
