OK, so we can shoot a .45 Schofield round in the replicas sold by Taylor's (I think that is the right company). But that is too whimpy a round. I'd prefer to shoot something very close in bore size and energy to the .56 Spencer rounds, and we know the length is critical because the design can't take long cartridges.
I have the answer. A cut-down .500 Magnum case, with two loads worked up. One in blackpowder, one in smokeless, both to get about the same "oomph" as the original Spencer round. You may call it the ".50 Bart" in my honor.
