Greetings,

I just installed a Bushnell Trophy 1x32 model 730132P on my BFR 500 S&W and it did not whistand the recoil. After 3 shots, it losts its zero.

I have a cheap scope on my 44 mag and it held its zero through more than 400 rounds......

Is it the scope that has an issue, or is it the 500 S&W recoil that is too punishing????

Thank you

The recoil of the 500 Mag will destroy a lot of scope and red-dots. The scopes I have used on my 500 Mags were, Leupold 2 X 4 X and the 2.5X8's Also the Bushnell 2 X 6 X 32 held up just fine. I prefer the Ultra-dot red dots over the scopes. The lighter red-dot handle the recoil well. I have over 5000 rounds on my Ultra-dot on my BFR 500 Mag.

scope mount for s&w500

Just joined the forum after reading your post on scope mounts from 2008, I know it is a long shot but do you still have the mount you took off a 4" s&w500 ,I am wanting to put a ultra-dot LT on my 500 and would appreciate ant comments

They're Leupold offset rings and they are 30mm. The MatchDot has a longer turret than the standard UltraDot, so I couldn't use the standard factory Ruger rings. They're 77MKII rings and installed backwards. I like them very much.

CraigC, do you think the UltraDot line of scopes will hold up to a 454 Casull? My SRH 454 is a hard hitting revolver, A LOT worse than my 460 Mag XVR. In fact, I downloaded it with reduced 2400 loads to make it more shoot able.

I do! They are extremely tough and very well reputed. Here's a shot of gunwriter Max Prasac's .500Linebaugh SRH with an UltraDot. I don't think he's ever worn one out. Actually, it might be the only red dot I'd put on a hard kicking sixgun.
