Is anyone shooting 500 yard rifle matches any more?

I have heard older shooters (over 65-70 yrs.) talk about shooting 500 yards and how much fun it was.
I have only seen & fired on the standard rifle ranges with 200, 300, 600 yd. berms and a few with the 800, 900, and 1,000.
What has happened to the 500 yd. ranges? Are there any out there?

My target shooting friend says nobody but the Marines shoot much at 500 yards any more. I know I have not seen any 500 yard ranges in my limited experience.

For a couple...

the NRA National Match Course for High Power Rifle is fired at 200, 300 and 600 yards.

High Power Rifle Silouette is fired at up to 500 yards (or meters, depending on how 'purist' the match director feels.)

Most full size rifle ranges go to 500 yards, if they hold these kinds of matches. Finding them in any proximity to large cities is getting harder and harder.

There's a 550 yard range about 30 min north of my house in Northern California. No rangemaster, no facilities, no fees. There are good tables and a toilet.

I usually bring my own shade, cold drinks and some guns and ammo. Mornings are best...the crackheads aren't awake yet. ;)

Chattanooga Rifle Club has a 500 yard range. The NMC there is 200, 300 and 500 due to real estate constraints. They use an NRA approved 500yd target to approximate the 600yd target but, it looks like a gnat to me. However, it is the only range on which I have cleaned a target past the 300yd line, 200-12x and no, I didn't win that match. My former partner shot a 200-15x, the bastard!
