Dear Supporter of Keeping .50 Caliber Sniper Rifles out of the Hands of Terrorists:

Often comedy shows like "The Daily Show" come closer to the truth than the daily press. We urge you to review this commentary from Lewis Black, aired on the Daily Show with John Stewart, in which NRA Executive Vice President claims that he doesn't know what a terrorist watch list is and that it shouldn't prevent potential terrorists from buying guns, big guns, guns that can shoot down planes landing and taking off:

Watch and listen here or go to http://www.50caliberterror.com where we have it posted.

Also, if you missed the second "60 Minutes" piece on the terrorist danger posed by America being the "candy store" (according to a former U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms top official), here is the link:

And what are we asking of you? Help the "Stop Terrorists from Buying Big Guns in America" campaign by having at least 5 friends sign up for these alerts by sending this url to them:

It's the patriotic thing to do to make America Safe.

Yup. On the other hand, I have here an editorial from The Onion and a Pulitzer-nominated four-part series from Mad Magazine which support my views, so I win.

Maybe desperate; but another advantage of shows like the Daily Show is that since they claim to be comedy rather than news, they don't have any obligation to tell any story but the one they want to tell.

For example, they don't need to list the VERY long list of reasons that prohibit people from legally purchasing firearms (such as being an illegal alien - or are we allowing people on the terrorist watch list to immigrate legally these days?).

They also don't need to mention Form 4473s or how exactly the NYT managed to determine that X many names on the terrorist watch list were being approved in 2004 if the government is really destroying records of legitimate NICS transactions (which they have supposedly been doing since 2001).

The Daily Show can sell more people with one-sided humor than a legion of Brady advocates will ever sell. People who are ignorant about the issue and don't really care one way or the other won't bother to see if the Daily Show told them the whole story. They will just laugh and next time the issue comes up at the ballot box they'll think "O yeah, guns are bad".

Finally, it is always a joy to see liberals who can't complain enough about the injustice done to non-American citizens captured on the battlefield in places like Guantanamo Bay jump up and advocate for a secret, extrajudicial list to deny actual American citizens their rights.

next thing you know they'll be petitioning agianst the .458 Lott..

Agree, that is Fked up. Forest for the trees. Head in the sand. Umm, head up their ass... I'm out.

I like the daily show, though, and like free speech, so if a guy wants to make a political statement in a funny way on a comedy sketch show, sounds ok. I saw the sketch they talk about, it wasn't great, in all honesty there have been funnier ones by the same guy, but I made myself laugh anyway. Better to rise above it and laugh at a joke:)

In fairness to the Daily Show, they took some nasty shots at Kerry too. There was a segment where they showed Kerry speaking, and then Jon Stewart would yell at him for making no sense or flopping around, and they'd show Kerry again, and Stewart would yell at him again, cry, etc.

AFAIK Stewart was anti-Bush, but his COMEDY show is less biased than most network news, for God's sake!

Yeah, he definitely voted for Kerry and although I still think his show took more shots at Bush during the elections, he did a decent job of going after Kerry too.

I still remember one episode where he was commenting on some joke Bush made and usually since they are really lame he can make a joke out of the joke but this particular one made him say "Okay, yeah, that was pretty fun. Damn!" :). It made me laugh.

I don't blame Lewis Black or the Daily Show at all. They did cut off about 90% of the sentence LaPierre spoke in order to pretend that he actually pretended not to know what a terrorist watch list was (he was actually introducing his point with a rhetorical question, which is a time-honored technique taught in middle schools across this great nation.) But they're comedians, and if their comedy occasionally galls me, that's OK as long as they gall the other guys (see Stewart's recent interview with Soderbergh where he maneuvered her into moaning about the possibility that the U.S. might be successful and the Middle East peaceful with Bush in the White House and insisting "but there's still Korea and Iran" as if they were her last great hopes for chaos and failure.)

However, this 50caliberterror group is a filthy pile of liars. THEY don't claim to be comedians, and THEY are presenting the joke from Black's bit as if it were a genuine fact. Disgusting.

The Daily show does swing left, but I don't let it bother me.

South Park, however, kills me because they are most certainly unbiased when it comes to the issues. I have to give them credit, they haven't picked a side yet. They make fun of everyone equally.

If it wasn't for carefully crafted, manipulative, deceptive propaganda, liberals would have nothing to fight us with. You would think something would click in their heads when they have to constantly lie to convince people to accept their viewpoints...

I agree. That show is great. Their equal-opportunity bashing probably has a lot to do with the fact that Matt Stone and Trey Parker (or at least one of them) is a registered Libertarian.

Why would you find this interesting? It's standard procedure for anti-rights groups. Such organizations, be they VPC, Brady, or lower state-run organizations are without exception top-down hierarchies. Their membership exists only for the purposes of revenue generation.

You're about as likely to find grass roots in Death Valley as you are to find it in an anti group.

Didn't one of the groups used to have a forum on their main site that has since been made invitation only because they didn't want outsiders seeing how pathetic it was (2 or 3 posts per day by the same people)?

Just to rouse rabble, I thought I'd mention that Death Valley right now, having received more than three times its normal annual rainfall, is blooming with things they didn't even know existed.

Not that it makes you wrong; I just wanted to stir up trouble. :p

edited to remove erroneous apostrophe. I hate that.
