My 550 came in today with a 223 conversion kit. I mounted it to the bench and started to put it together. The directions were very good I thought. I had a little trouble with the shell plate. I tried to adjust it without a case. I put a case in a turned it half way between station 1 and 2, snugged it down and it works great. It comes with the large primer system installed so I had to change it over to small. Very easy I thought and didn't take very long. The powder measure came with the small powder bar installed and I need the large. It was also very easy to change over. I did learn that you have to keep a close eye on the little square white plastic thingy. I have the powder die and measure set height wise but not the charge. I did not install the rest of the dies yet. Overall I am very impressed how easy it was to set up. It seems that it should also be very easy to change calibers but I do see where it would be an advantage to buy extra powder measures with the conversion.

+1 on the little square white plastic thingy. I had one slip off (my error) and it was blocking the action of the powder measure so it wouldn't cycle fully. Took me a bit to diagnose the problem but once I found it and put it back in place it has been fine.

I had to go look at my 550 to find the "little square white plastic thingy". I've never changed the powder bar on mine though. By the way great choice on a reloading press. The 550 is simple and fast.

Good choice on a press, I have had my 550 since 1989 and Dillon customer service has always been great. I started with 45 acp. I have had great results and a solid piece of equipment. Dillon is helpful on any smokeless powder questions, but will avoid talking about any black powder setup or use. I use a lyman 55 black powder measure when using the Dillion for older cartridge. I am a just getting into the black powder cartridges an have lots to learn. good luck with your press.

I had to smile, because I know you're coming off a Lee Turret system with "the little square black plastic thingy" on the index rod.

I'm jealous.

Hehe...we meet again!

I learned about this site from Ultimate Reloader (Gavin) and have kept it in rotation, but have been checking out "what to shoot next" more often than "what to load next."

I'll be following closely, and I hope that the .223 loads go well for you.
