It appears to be the quietest 556 suppressor made by anyone (why I did not go with the Saker).

I can't wait to try it. My hosts are going to be:
  • 16" semi-RECCE Rainier Arms Select MEDCOM middy barreled piston (Adams XLP) sidecocker (ASA) ["semi-RECCE" because handguard is almost to RECCE length but not quite to enable piston adjustment]
  • 20" SDM-R semi-clone with a Rainier Arms Ultramatch ["semi-clone" because of M4 lower and heavy billet upper but a functional equivalent]

I'm a little concerned about throwing off the barrel harmonics of the second gun with the heavy Trifecta RS mount. Should I try low torque and some threadlocker?

metering as the quietest? or just sounding the quietest?

m4-2000 should still be the quietest, and some people have forgotten about the Knights QDC, probably because not many are used, as they are more than double the cost of a Specwar. one thing that always got me was that the specwar wasnt selling very well, and if it was the quietest 556 on the planet, then it should have sold itself. But it did pretty poorly, which is what begot the Saker coming into existance.

The other thing to remember is that some cans offer better suppression on different length barrels. I think this is true in this case. One that suppresses the best on an 18" may not be the quietest on a 10.5" barrel. it also varies by ammo choice.

Here is an example below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmsfUnwOOVk

unsuppressed 14.5" - 168.55dB
Griffin M4SDII 14.5" - 135.2 dB
Griffin M4SD 14.5" - 134.08 dB
Surefire 556 RC 14.5" - 137.51 dB

Griffin M4SDII 10.3" - 133.54 dB
Griffin M4SD 10.3" - 136.5 dB
Surefire 556 RC 10.3 - 138.87 dB

Then in the Silencerco Vid you probably saw, testing the m4-2000 and saker and specwar, their baseline average was 164 with XM855 and they shot xm855 through it all. Xm855 is listed at 3020 FPS at the muzzle, and M193 is like 3165 with a lighter bullet.

So when you look at it, your Specwar reduction numbers on an 18" AR with xm855 is 34.32 dBs. The vid i attached shows that two of Griffins cans beat that on shorter barreled rifles.

which means there are so many variables, that the specwar cant just be declared the quietest around. Hell, i bet in an unbiased ear-only test, that the KAC Nt4 would "sound" quieter than the Specwar based purely on tone.

I probably should have clarified that remark (if was off the cuff--I'm not selling anything).

I have 16" and 20" hosts. I never like to compare test to test done under different conditions with potentially different equipment. I own a couple AAC cans (they are usually my favorite company) and took a long hard look at the m4-2000.

I have been told that the tone is not very pleasant on the SpecWar, but I'm not too concerned about tone.

I despise AAC, they aren't the company they used to be. I'd only ever purchase an m4-2000 if it was a screaming deal and I could properly machine the mount so it actually locked up tight.

My research came up with lots of complaints about their QD mount.

I absolutely love my two AAC thread-ons (Cyclone and TiRant 45). The cyclone is "ear safe" on .308 and has great tone and I've used it in sub-caliber requently (5.56 and 6.5) and my impressions are that it is still.

Are there other reasons you don't like AAC? I've heard some dealers mumble things but it seems to be on the business side not the product side.

Mike

everyone who made AAC what it used to be, a leader in the industry, has left. Their CS sucks, and they have had quality problems with their mounts that they never should have had, from a design standpoint. Couple that with all the Remington AAC rifles that have **** factory threading, causing baffles strikes, and it paints a rough picture.

on top of that, Remington bought them a few years ago and rumor has it that AAC wont even be around anymore within about 2 years, and will be lumped in with other brands under "Remington Accessories". But its just a rumor, for now. Silvers swears that AAC is still strong and that SHOT this year would prove that. What he was talking about, i have no clue.

I have had a 5.56 Specwar for over a year now & use it with the Trident QD mount on 3 different hosts. It was my first of now several suppressors, they just seem to accumulate :)eek:)

I have been quite satisfied with it. POI shift on a 20" heavy barrel 5.56 is minimal. POI shift on a 16" taper barrel is approx. 1" left and 2" high at 100yds.:)confused: seems odd to me, but it is consistent).

For the price I paid for it at the time and it's performance, I am quite satisfied.

Weighs 534.5g new (I always weigh to track how much residue and lead is in them). With mount this is about 1 oz less than my AAC Cyclone plus thread adapter I was using on 5.56 too. Mounts up good and secure and passes concentricity check.

So far so good . . . Hope to shoot it this weekend.

I am camping on some acreage in the Weaver Mountains I own near Prescott and after setting up camp had a few minutes before dusk take a half a dozen shots with the gas port closed at a boulder about 500 yards away using my ballistic reticle. 1 shot with proper hold over went long but two to three hundred yard holdover smacks the boulder. I probably have a small POA shift upwards. A shot at a rock about 70 yards away seems to hit where I put it.

I really like the tone of the SpecWar 556. The sonic boom and impacts sound even louder than usual in comparison so I think it's a very effective suppressor. I was shooting Walmart Federal 55s. That's about it for now since I don't like posting from my cell phone.

Using a dedicated 5.56 suppressor gives a lot more back pressure then using a 7.62 one subcaliber.

I used to be a little under gassed 1/4 open with the bigger suppressor. Now I'm good but need to remember to shut my mouth when shooting :) left side cocker vents quite a bit of gas to the left. It's a piston gun so the gas is coming from the chamber. I made the right decision to go mid instead of carbine.

Mike

PS. POI shift if any is small. Thumper didn't notice. Will get it on paper with both hosts soon.

I have had good luck with AAC. Well good luck with their CS. I did have to return the suppressor once because the black coating started to peel off after I used a 50% purple power / water mixture in a sonic cleaner. They told me to send it back and never responded whether that was a defect or if I caused the damage. They did pay for me to send them the suppressor to recoat it and sent it back all on their dime. I had it back to me in probably 7-8 days.

While it was there I included a note that the threads were chipped and it was rough to switch out the spring and end cap when going from pistol to rifle. I got it back and a few weeks later they got worse. Once again emailed, and received a response with apre-paid label in a day or two, had it returned to me fixed in about a week.

I am not technically inclined so I have no idea how they fixed threads on the tube but they did, and it works great.

Yes it has had to go back to them 2x in about 4 years, yes they send it back without telling me and I have to have UPS hold it at the office OR pay $5 for UPS to change the address to my work since I am not home during delivery. Yes they do not tell me what they did to fix the problem or include any notes or anything, but they do fix it and quickly. Anytime I call or email they respond politely and promptly.

I am happy with them.
