I don't follow the prices on S&W L-frames, because I'm really not interested in an L frame.

However, I came across one yesterday, a 4", early 1990s production, wood grips, very very nice finish (probably 98-99%) and a fairly excellent trigger, at a shop for $319.

How's that price? I know (as I've stated many times) that Northern Virginia is a lot more expensive than other parts of the country, where the dealer has to give you a 20 just to take the gun off his hands :).

If the price is good enough, I may add it to my collection even though I really don't like full underlug barrels.

I am seeing them for about that price here in the southwest.
Nice guns, very nice guns.

Mike,
I really like the 4' 586-M I have. Mine cost more than $319, but I'm in CA and prices on firearms not on the certified list are inflated unless you stumble into a good deal. $319's prolly right.

I gave $270 for mine off the net but it was not in 99% condition and it didn't have the original grips. I would rather have paid a bit more and been able to look at it in person and had a better gun. $319 sounds like a decent price, I would do it if I were looking for a 586.

Hey Mike-

Last evening I heard of a local individual wanting to sell
a Smith & Wesson 6" blue steel 586 with a professional
action job and elaborate Hogue Cocobolo wood grips
for around $400. I HAVE NOT personally seen this gun;
but I don't believe the price is all that firm? I'm going to
check it out~

FootNote: I'm a class guy, and I don't like to take any
kind'a advantage of a person that is down on their luck;
such as this instance of a failed marriage. Poor guy has
a "tricked out" Browning Hi-Power that he is wanting to
get rid of as well. Price? Its around six C-notes, I think?

Best Wishes,

Buy it - they're seriously undervalued. Great guns - accurate, easy to handle, and good lookin'. What else can you buy for that price that compares? I only have two, no three, of the full-lugged S&W's, and I notice they get more than their fair share of range time.

Just sold a 4" 586 here in KY for $280. The pistol went with a set of the standard S&W oversized walnut grips. Other than some holster wear, the pistol was in good condition.
