Mods if this in the wrong forum, please move.

I'm looking for a good concealment holster for a 586 w/ a 4" barrel, OWB or IWB. We're going to be teaching an off duty carry course at work (full time LEO firearms instructor) and I'd like to be able to use one to teach with. Mainly to show that with a little thought in terms of gear and garment selection there is no need to go without a gun. If I'm carrying a 4" L frame with 2 speed loaders concealed, I don't want to hear that they can't managed to make SOMETHING work for them. Also I REALLY enjoy the look on peoples faces the first time they're around a .357 magnum being shot. A lot of our officers have never had that joyous experience.

Thanks!

Revolver holsters ....

There are a few brands and styles out there. You can even find a few Kydex or polymer rigs too. ;)
I sometimes used a black Blade-tech holster for my Ruger GPNY 4" barrel wheel gun in the 2000s.
See; Milt Sparks, Savoy Leather, Kirkpatrick Leather, Mernickle, El Paso Saddlery, Don Hume, Alessi, Galco, Wright Leather Works(the nice Predator may meet your OWB needs ;) ), Ted Blocker, Mitch Rosen, High Noon Holsters, Greg Kramer, Ken Null, Tex Shoemaker(he makes the holster used on the hit series; The Walking Dead).

Contact the shop or maker first so you are clear on the item, delivery times, features, etc. Some well known makers can take weeks or months due to high demand.

I suggest the DeSantis Speed Scabbard. I retired after over 30 years as a LEO (almost all plainclothes) and have used these holsters for about 30 years. I have a Speed Scabbard for all the guns I usually carry. I like the no thumb break version and have found the holster to securely hold the handgun without a strap but you can get one with if you want. I've carried various guns from a J frame and BG 380 up to L frame, Beretta 92, or 1911 with no issues. This holster holds the gun flat being leather. I dont care for Kydex for a concealment holster.

They are usually available a variety of places like Amazon with no waiting.

I made this with carrying a 4" L-frame in mind, as I was using my 586 to get my feet wet in IDPA play. The problem for me on a L-frame is my 586 is a square butt. If you have a later production model L-frame they are all round butt and would be much easier to carry without it blatantly printing. Main thing something like this gets you over a standard pancake is the 'tunnel' for the rear sight to keep it and the hammer out of your forearm or cover garb.

Eaglestroker: That is gorgeous, I'm assuming it's one of yours? If you wouldn't mind, can you send me a PM with details on it.

I carry a 686 plus on a regular basis and have several custom holsters for it along with a pancake style from bianchi. The problem is I keep coming back to those cheap uncle mikes IWB holsters you pick up at wallyworld. Kind of a shame really, but they work for me with a good heavy belt. I will say my favorite custom holster came from a guy off the smith and wesson forum great holster well made. Fair price too. I really want to try one of those hybrids from alien gear or one of those but none seem to care about the larger smiths.
