I have a type 38 Arisaka Carbine that was converted to the 6.5 - .257 Roberts . It's in excellent condition , it has a timney trigger , Lyman rear reciever peep sight , other than that it's original. my question is ;can I shoot regular .257 Roberts ammo off the shelf in it ??? >>>>>>>>>>>> WaistGunner

If it's 6.5-.257, then the bore is 6.5mm, so no unless you want that .25 caliber bullet rattling down the bore.

.257 VS .264

I reload for a very similar European cartridge called the 6.5 x 57mm. It really is a neat cartrdige.

You're probably going to have to have a chamber cast done then see what dies can be bought/made for it.

The 6.5x257 Roberts dies are made by RCBS and Midway carries them. Just get 257 Roberts brass, .264 bullets and IMR 4831 and you're in business. It's a very nice round as there isn't much recoil and it packs a punch on game.
