Awesome cartridge, 3400+fps with 86 gr. of H-870 powder behind 139 gr. bullet with 26" barrel. And you thought the 264 Win Mag was tough on barrels. That's Ammoguide info.

1,000 yard TEN SHOT group of 8.5" - wowsa! I doubt I can do that with more than 1/3rd of my rifles at 200 yards, due to the occasional flier that is inevitable with a 10 round group. That's a screamer of a round.

The 6.5 WWH had a strong following among the technical writers at Guns & Ammo of the time. (Yes, G&A was once a reasonably technical publication.)
They found that with the powders of the day - mostly H570 and H870 extra slow Ball - that you could not get through a typical Long Range match of 20 rounds plus sighters without the barrel fouling out. It would shoot a brilliant ten shot string and then go to pieces. They reported fouling so heavy and stubborn that it could not be removed, ruining the barrel.

I've got one. Shoots like lazer. With a 30" barrel, it'll run a 123 Lapua Scenar or Nosler 120 BT at 3,600+, 139/140 class bullets to 3,400. Sid Goodling in PA built it for me and it shoots 3/8 moa with top loads. Delivers 1,000 ft.lbs. at 1,000 yards. Had to have it set back at 750 rounds, MIGHT get another 500 before the barrel is trashed. Fouls like crazy with H-870, needed BonAmi to get the hard carbon out. After setting it back, I quit using H-870 and am now running 123 Scenars with Retumbo at about 3,400 and it uses 19 MOA to dial on at 1k with a 100 yard zero.
