What are some of the loads that have given the best performance for you with this round. I have a M96 and also a M94 carbine so I will probably have to develop two different loads due to barrell length. I will probably stay with 139 - 140 grain bullets.

I use 37.5gr Varget, 142gr Sierra Match King, Lapua brass, Winchester primer for my Swedish M96. Muzzle velocity avg a hair under 2600 fps (2595~).

I need to come up with a new load though since I've switched from Varget to RL15 for my .223 and soon .308, and thus, need to try and get RL15 to shoot in this gun so I can stop buying Varget.

Also, with the cost of Sierra bullets almost as high as Lapua and Berger, I'm going to switch to Lapua or Berger (or Hornady if I want to make an effort to keep costs down).

ocabj,

I've gotten the same velocity using .4gr more RL15 than Varget in my .308, so would suggest trying about .3gr more RL15 than your 6.5x55 Varget load.

I use a published load of R22 with 140gr bullets in my Swede, a Mark X with Hart 24" barrel. Velocity is over 2700 fps and accuracy is very good. I have at one time or another used the same load in a M96 29" bbl, a M700 Classic 22" bbl and a M98 with a 24" Shilen bbl and as I remember the velocities were within 50-75 fps in all 4 of the barrels. I wouldn`t worry about "needing" to use different powders because of barrel lenght.
