6.5x55 Swede

I am not having a lot of success finding a load that will consistently shoot sub MOA with my 6.5x55...I have loaded Hornady 140 grain BTSP bullets with multiple powders and powder combinations. Powders include Varget, IMR 4350, Win 760, IMR 4831 and Reloader 19.

I was wondering if any of you can offer some recommendations? Have any of you found accuracy with smaller bullets? What have you found that worked well for you?

The best I have been able to do and duplicate is with Reloader 19 powder. I have shot 1.07 and 1.04 3 shot groups with this but frankly I am looking for something around the .75 or better area.

Also this is for a deer rifle and not a target rifle.

what rifle are you shooting?

those groups you mention sound great for a sporter weight rifle, an eternal quest for sub MOA could be a fruitless search, you're rifle just may not have it in it

1 MOA ain't bad. Some people find good results with R-22 and 140 projectiles. If you need a major improvements see a smith. best-o-luck

CZ 550 American

I expected a lot more out of this rifle when I purchased it based on the other two CZs I own and what I had read online about this caliber.

I have been able to find a good round for all my other rifles but I have bought multiple bullets to use to find a good one for the others. Made easier because I have 3 rifles that use 7mm bullets. But for this one I purchased only one brought on mainly because where and when I bought the rifle it was the only one they had at the time. Normally I have started with at least two and usually three different bullets and then usually at least three different powders as well. I have 3 more loads I have loaded up to try and if these do not show any improvement I am thinking about buying a couple of different bullets to try to find one that will group better than what I have gotten so far.

Perhaps I am expecting more than I should but with all my other rifles I have been able to find a load capable of shooting 3 shot group of at least .75 or better.

I am doing good with Varget and 129 Hornadys.

I believe the Hornady 140gr BT is a A-Max bullet and not a hunting bullet anyway. I haven`t had much luck with them or the SST in a couple of different caliber hunting rifles. When they work they work well. When they don`t you`re SOL as far as accuracy goes IMO.
Try the 129gr SP flat base and either R19 or R22. The 120 Nosler BT works well in the Swede also. I use H4350 under it with good results.
The 140 gr Hornady SP-not BT does well in my swede too. I use R22 with them, or the Sierra 140 BTSP.

Try some 140gr flat base Remingtons or Speers with RL-19. I believe that I read the twist is 1in8.6 and should handle the lighter bullets better than the milsurp twist.

Used to be that if the rifle shot under 2 inches at 100 yards, it was fine for a hunting rifle.

I still think rifles that shoot under 1 MOA are target rifles.

Expectations have really risen over time.......

Alliant's RL22 is THE powder for the 139 - 142gr bullets in the Swede. VV N160 is also an excellent powder for these bullets.

A fellow swede reloader friend says he is having great luck with 85gr sierra matchkings, so far I am having ok luck with 140gr rem, going to try a lighter bullet next.

I am going to try some other type of Ammo!

Based on the info so far it appears I have the wrong bullet. I am going to try a couple of different type bullets. I sure wish you could purchase them in smaller quantities than 50 when I am trying to find a bullet powder combination. Usually I will buy 2-3 different types of bullets but that gets expensive! Especially when you find that they do not shoot well out of your gun!

Are there any Dallas Fort Worth Rifle Reloaders out there with this problem?
