Has anyone loaded 129gr Hornady SP in the Swede using modern strong actions? I have a Steyr Mannlicher M and looking for starting load suggestions. Also thinking of trying some 120gr and 140gr BT and 140gr Hornady SP.

So, the U.S. manuals are not that helpful as the SAAMI spec is anemic. CIP max pressure for the Swede is representative of modern actions and the Vihtavouri load data reflects that.

Unofficially, and without my endorsement, working up from the published Hodgdon or Hornady maximum by one to two grains of IMR4831 would not be insane.

For a time, I had a strain gauge on my modern action 6.5x55, and worked up a few loads. For some reason, I don't have pressure data associated with this load, so I'm not entirely sure how I arrived at it. FWIW:

129 grain Hornady bullet, 47.5 grains H4350, CCI200 primer, 3.000" COL, 2950 FPS.

260 Rem data is a decent place to start too. I've used it with success. I look at it as the max is 2 grains over 260 Rem max.

USE WITH CAUTION! Proceed at own risk follow all safety precautions

Why do you say that? The 140-142/IMR 4831 data is almost exactly what Doug Bowser gives for M96 rifles(Neutrality through Marksmanship). I've used that same bullet powder combination in the Nosler range with good results in my M96, as have others.

The Norma Military ammo is reported to be 2626 fps.

Because that is what Nosler says in its notes for the 6.5x55 load tables. Like most reloading manuals, some “max” loads are not near max pressure. Perhaps the powder is spiked in that case/bullet weight combination or the chamber it was tested in. For whatever reason, it is not uncommon for some loads in the table to not top out to SAAMI max pressure.

I was offering an example. I imagine if someone searched more than the 30 seconds I did they could come with a few more sources to add to the discussion.

I used IMR4064 and a 120 SMK and 123 AMAX. I just started with Lyman data and worked up. Best accuracy for me was around just shy of 3000. There are better powders for it.
