I'm starting a project that's been on the back burner for years; building a 1911 from the frame up. My current plan is a long slide 1911. I would also like to be able to use the suppressor I have on one of the 1911s I currently own.

I am having a difficult time finding a 6" threaded barrel.

Any one have a suggestion where I can find one?

You'll find that a 6" threaded would look a little funny when the suppressor is mounted. You'll need to buy a barrel from a suppressor maker, or have one cut and threaded to fit. Not a big deal. There are several makers, Jarvis being one of them, and some listed on gunbroker, that are threaded just right, and about 5.5" long.

I already checked Brownell's. The only threaded barrels they have are for a government slide.

As for the comment about the 6" threaded bbl looking odd, I think you missed part of the description. This will be a long slide 1911. The actual barrel needs to be close to 6.5". And just to make things a little more complicated, I'd like a left hand thread for the suppressor. I currently have a Storm Lake Barrel in one of my 1911's. It's a royal pain in the @$$ having the can work loose after a couple mags.

Now you are getting into unchartered territory, and that will cost you some extra bucks. You now have a recommended source (Fusion) for the barrel for your longslide (which I did miss), but a new problem may arise. Just as compensated guns need springs reduced in power to function, you may have to play around with springs, and/or get a can with a Nielson Device (a spring assisted piston operated by some of the gases entering the suppressor to assist the slide in its unlocking and rearward thrust). These are offered on many suppressor designs, but they may need to be tweaked to opeate your greater mass of a longslide, etc. It will make an interesting and unique pistol, though. Then, you may need a different spring when NOT using the suppressor.

Thanks for the suggestions. The can that will go on this pistol is an Advanced Armament Ti-Rant. It does have a piston. I'm planning on some difficulties and expecting some experimentation with springs.
