Carried 1973 M70 win to range today to test 60% H4895 loads.
30-06, 150 gr Sierra flat base, old 3x9 Simmons scope, good front rest, no rear rest (used fist)
Gun sighted in 1" low at 25 yards.
50 yards on paper ok
100 yards #1 group 1 3/8", 5" low
Adjust scope
100 yards #2 group 1 1/2", dead on
200 yards #3 group, miss Redfield sight in target completely!
200 yards #4 group, poa top of target, last 5 reloads
-poi 12 1/2" low
-5 of 5 shot group 3 3/4" (I pulled one shot) Dang I hate that!
-4 of 5 shot group 1 3/4" (felt good about these 4 shots)
-3 of 5 shot group 9/16" (ragged hole)
Learned
1. Gun and load very accurate and will redo test once recoil pad installed, 4x12 scope installed, and sand bag for rear stock.
2. Leupold " 4 square" targets better to test than Redfield as 4 square gives you a better view of your cross hair hold and movement.
3. Don't have a clue as to fps, but must be slow to account for massive drop from 100 to 200 yard drop. I will probably crono on next trip.
4. I will also dial in for 200 yards and then recheck 100 yard inches high.
5. RECOIL no problem, shooting in tee shirt. I love it!
I had a ball, hope yawl enjoyed reading this!

That's pretty darn impressive, nice!

I'm gearing up myself right now to work up some 4895 loads, IMR though. Different cartridge also, but I'm curious to see how this 35 or so year old powder will burn.

35 year old powder! You're as bad as I am! I'm using 1989 primers! Powder is a bit newer, I think- I got it from a deceased reloaders estate.
