Ive never found what I would call a deal at a pawn shop..... Ive seen a lot of guns that I would have liked to have had, but im not going to pay $175 for a 20 yr old ruger 10/22 when you can buy a new one for $25 more

How about a "NIB" S&W .500 Magnum 8 3/8" for a "sale" price of $1495.00 with the gun shop owner telling you the previous owner couldn't handle the recoil?

I saw one Mosin a couple of years ago, completely engraved and it looked like a pretty good job, a traditional scroll pattern. It also had exceptional wood for a Mosin, possibly a restock but full military lines. They were asking about 1300 for it.

There was a mosin at the World Sniper Tournament in Finland last year that was in a custom stock and had been rechambered in 300 Winmag. That rifle cost a pretty penny to make.

Engraving on a mosin? The purist in me feels that would be blasphemy, but the me in me wants to see it.

I saw that one. It was way cool. But there wasn't much Mosin left in that Mosin- it was a very tricked out rifle.

I found a Chinese Tokarev in 9x19mm several months ago at a local pawn shop for $100. It needed a little tweaking - which I've done - and it's a nice shooter.
The sticker price was higher ($200+)but after sitting around and chatting with the guy behind the counter he offered it to me at a big discout. Once he figured out I was a reputable sort (as opposed to some of the hoodlums who came in the place) he was happy to cut me a deal to get rid of a "cheap gun" without appearing to sell for cheap.
I agree with some of the other posters about talking to the folks behind the counter. Sometimes it pays.

I saw a engraved 91/30 at an auction before also, strange. Pawn shop deals depend on your area and your willingness to put in the time and knowledge to find deals.

I got a decent Ruger Redhawk .44mag for mid $200's recently at a pawnshop. Same place got me a decent Carcano for $53 OTD.

I always wondered if some of these stores charge ridiculous prices because they are........ not so meticulous in their background check paperwork.

They have to do the same paperwork and NICS check any other FFL does or face time in prison.

In Austin I have seen a Bersa .380 marked as a Beretta and priced at $450. Even after pointing out that the gun was not a Beretta, the manager insisted that it was a Beretta, not Bersa and the price was firm.:what:

$600 for a Mosin? Maybe it belonged to Vasily Zaytsev?

the funny thing the one he actually used during the battle of stalingrad could very well have been sold during a sale at dunhams or big5 (the one at the stalingrad museum in volgograd is the rifle he was issued post stalingrad (it's a PU.. every photo of him in stalingrad that shows his rifle clearly shows a PEM) the one he used during the battle disappeared (likely issued to another sniper) after he was wounded)

The only time a pawn shop ever discounted a gun was when I had to point out the pistol was not a .45 but a 9mm.The kid behind the counter did not believe me and even went as far as calling the owner to make sure I was correct. After confirming it was a 9mm he discounted the pistol $75.00.

I got an M28 Finn from a nasty little pawn broker for $100. It was marked as "Roosian Rifle."

Now that's funny. :D Those crazy Roosians - little known nickname for the Finnish people.

Why can't I ever find good deals like that? Oh wait, I know why - I don't scour the pawn shops..
