I have been wanting a large frame revolver. As of now, My only revolver is an sp101 in 9mm. I found a N frame 610 at my favorite gun store and I am conseidering this. I tend to find odd guns ( like my 9mm revolver) and the moon clips do apeal to me as well as relatively cheap .40sw. Is the 10mm powerfull enough (I know, Subjective..) but I am wondering, if I am getting a large heavy gun, should I hold out for something more powerful (.44, .45 ect...)
My other concern is that the 610 is like 7 oz HEAVIER than a comparible size .44. Why did they do that?

If you want to compete in IDPA or other competitions the 610 is worth your consideration. The gun is smooth, accurate and reliable. The 610 has been racking up quite a list of wins here in the southwest. Just last weekend, two shooters from the RIMZ competition team with 610's competed in the California Regional ICORE Match and took a first and a second in C and B class. Overall, they finished 18th and 20th from a field of about 80 shooters. The overall standings included both open (red dots) and limited (iron sights) guns.

The 10mm is heavier than the .44 because it is made on the same "N" frame and same barrel blank, but the holes in barrel and cylinder are smaller.

Do you think those few oz would be a bix factor in carry (woods, not ccw) My next heaviest handgun weighs in the 35-40 oz range fully loaded so this would be heavier, but I dont know if I would get sick of lugging that thing around. Any experience?

I have a 3" 610. Occasionally I use it for CCW. It takes a good holster, and a good belt, but it is not that difficult.

Of course before that, I carried a model 58.

The key is a good belt and holster. Without these two items it will indeed be painful to lug around.

The added weight is just something you would have to get used to. One option if it gets too heavy for you is to go with a shoulder holster. With the weight distributed across your shoulders instead of on your waist you can go much farther.
