I bought a 610 5" fluted used and the side plate screws keep coming loose during fire. Also the cylinder rod is unscrewing as it fires.

I bought some new screws for the side plate holes (prior owner buggered the heads more then I would like) and I figured I would use some break clean to clean out the holes and then just torque them down a "reasonable" amount.

I really do not want to locktite them in if I can avoid it. Is there any other little tricks I should know about?

Also the cylinder eject rod keeps unscrewing. I asssume just unscrew it completely, clean with brake clean and then torque it back down with some pliers and a leather strip to avoid buggering the rod? Any other tips before I commit surgery?

Thanks
ps: I did search and found a few tips, but I figured I will ask the rest of the questions.

Generally speaking, if you degrease the threads and holes they go into with a little fingernail polish remover, and then put a single drop of clear fingernail polish on the screw(s) or ejector rod they won't back themselves out. Trying to tighten the screws too much will bugger up the slots - especially with stainless screws because they are soft. And the same thing can strip the threads on the ejector rod.

Thanks. I was trying to avoid over-torquing them and also the locktite route. I am sure I can find some fingernail polish somewhere around the house.

Another alternateive to Loc-Tite is teflon tape like plumbers use. You can experiment with how many wraps you need to get the tension you want and since it's non-adhesive and a solid you don't have to worry about it being harder to remove than it was to install.
