62 gr fmj and imr 4198

I ran across a deal awhile back, 2200 62 gr fmj for $100.00, and imr4198 for 10.00 a pound. What would be a good load with this combo for a S&W mp15t or keltec plr16. I'm new here and wanted to know if anyone could help. I've reloaded 30 years and have a very accurate load with 55 gr psp and imr 4198from ruger m77vt, out of 5 manuals I find nothing for ar's with this combo. Thanks for any help.

I have Lyman #47 and they list 20.0 grains MAX with a 63 grain PSP bullet.
Supposed to give 2544 FPS out of either a 20" AR-15, or a 24" pressure barrel, but they don't say which.

Actually, the reason you are not finding any loads, is because IMR4198 is not a very good powder for the .223 Remington with heavier bullets.
Although it's always been noted for accuracy, it's just too fast burning for best velocity.

It actually does pretty well with 40 & 45 grain bullets, but when you get to 55 - 60+, many other powders will give 200-300 FPS better velocity with fine accuracy as well.

Hodgdon's site lists for a 63gr. 18.5gr for 2756 and 20gr for 2946.

They also list a 60gr slug and a 69gr slug with identical powder charges and are both lower than the 63, starting charge of 18.3 and a max of 19.5. I don't know what the ballistic coefficient of the Sierra SP is but it apparently plays hell with the chamber pressure.

I had really good luck using IMR4198 and a 50gr V-Max with accuracy in a 7" AR. I was using and Ismi spring and an H2 buffer and the rounds didn't have enough energy to pick up the next round, but they cycled fine in a factory DPMS CAR 16" with a 1 in 9" barrel.
