I have a very good condition 4" 625 model of 1989 I am thinking about trading off.

The gun has been to the Performance Center for an action job, the cylinders chamfered and a gold bead partridge sight was installed.

It has about 20 moonclips, a bladetech holster, and a couple of demooning tools.

What would be a fair value on this gun? I was thinking $600 for everything. The performance center work is not cheap.

It's probably fair...but you may not get that much...and you would have to find the right buyer. Do you have documentation from S&W for the work they did? If I were paying for it - I'd want to see it. Holster, moon clips, etc. don't usually add that much value to buyers. I think it would sell pretty quickly at $550-$575 delivered.

Opie, I have a friend who is interested in that gun. Can you email me with the particulars....pictures, acknowledgement of PC work done, etc. Maybe we can work out a deal.

Thanks....

My friend who had the PC work done lost the receipt and I called S&W today and tried to get a copy. They could confirm that my gun has been in the PC shop for custom work, but could not tell exactly what was done. I am sure they did the work though, it came from a trusted friend.

I am probably going to try and do a local trade, if that does not pan out I will drop you a note. I always seem to loose money on internet deals. I have a little over $600 in it and I probably wouldnt take any less for it.

Brian,

Your $600 asking price should be fair, but the reality is, aftermarket work usually doesn't add value at resale time. $500 would probably be closer to what your gun might bring, but heck... maybe there is someone out there who really wants just what you're selling.

Doesn't cost a thing to put it up for sale at any price.

Good Luck...

Joe

$600 is high, I paid $335 for mine used, BUT, amazing as it is, on Oct 26, 2002 the IDPA organization reduced the legal barrel length in the revolver class from 5" to 4". That 4" barrel may just allow that gun to bring close to $600 because there are not many 4" 625 or 610's out there. Keep in mind though that dealer cost on a NIB 5" was around $500 last year, don't know what it is this year yet.

JeffOTMG,

Congrats on getting your 625 for $335. As you know, you stole it. :D

Used 625's, especially in an unusual bbl length like 4", are $500 guns around here all day long.

You will probably end up eating the bill on the PC work. $600 sounds a bit obtimistic, but if your area have none to offer you should get close. $550 maybe as close as you get.
You stated you were trading it off. Are you looking to trade it for something in the $600 range or actually looking to sell it?

Ideally I'd like to trade locally for a like new, but used glock 34 with nightsights and $50 or so. I have an offer of a like new G30 with nightsights and no cash, but I think my 625 with no accessories is still worth a little more than the Glock.

I am just trying to figure out where I am at with it. I traded a NIB Glock 26 with meprolights and some holsters and accessories tossed in. I have about $650 in it.

I broke down and offered it to a good friend last night at $525 for everything which I think is giving it away, but its a buddy so it doesnt bother me too much.

Is everyone in agreement I shouldnt take less than $525 for everything??

A good price for a good friend. I've taken a few losses for friends before. I've also gotten good deals from friends also. The balance sheet has ways of working itself out among friends.

Opie: A sad fact of gun trading is that market value and "where you're at with it" don't often jive. I think you have the right idea about trading on another used one though...because depreciation is a two way street. Don't take a beating on it - but get what you want and be happy with your choice. Life's too short to worry about whether you lost $50 on a three trade deal. Think of it as a year long (or however long) $50 rental.
