bought some 62gr bullets that said were ss109.was wondering how to tell if they are the real thing . used a magnent and it stuck to it.so how can i tell from the real ones

Real what? SS-109 bullet? SS-109 refers to the 61.5 (62~) grain bullet designed by FN with a steel penetrator. Lots of countries make the bullet, so whether or not they all look the same, I don't know. An SS-109 bullet is supposed to follow a certain specification.

So if it's a 22cal 62gr bullet that has a cannelure, is a BT, and has a steel penetrator (attracts a magnet), then it's most likely SS-109 spec. Whether or not it's 'real', I don't know how you would define real.

1. Pick any reloading manual.
2. Pick the .223 Rem chapter.
3. Pick any 62-69 grain bullet out of any reloading manual.
4. Work up from a starting load of any of the numerous powders listed in any reloading manual.
5. Stop at the Max listed charge, or before, if you get any pressure signs.
