ammo to go

Shipped today. I would say that standard shipping turnaround time is about a week. I'm pleasantly pleased. Customer service that has met if not exceeded expectation!!
Here comes the FBI load. :uhoh:

Jt1 what is that holster name, and or brand, the snaps look different. How does it ride on a belt? do you like it and have you used others you like or dislike? Thanks I just got a S&W 438 Bodyguard and need to find a couple carry rigs for it. thanks again.

... where is that Nem anyway...:scrutiny:
Nem is MIA right now.

We lost a key staff person this week at a very, very bad time, when we were already suffering. Now we're scrambling to keep our doors open.

Likely gonna be scarce around these parts for a while. (Though I wandered in tonight to distract me from a bad work situation.)

Interesting to see that ammo poll still kicking, collecting useful info. Hope it stays open. Older resurrected threads sometimes get shut down ... :uhoh:

Way cool! Thanks!

The P51 could probably come close to keeping up with the Warthog speed wise.

A co-worker told me about calling in the A10s and on their last run one rolled out right over him; he said he could see the pilot's face and he had an ear-to-ear grin.

what's better than one 642?...

...uummm, how about two of them ;)

ohio, GreasyStool - Welcome to the 642 Club, come on in...

ohio - The holster is a quick detachable adjustable driving/crossdraw I have been working on for some time now. This one is pretty beat up as I have been wearing it as a prototype for awhile now...it works well...a few more tweaks and it will be ready.

I like quality leather, however, IMO there are two must have holsters for an X42, and nether is leather. The first is a Mika pocket, the second is a Smartcarry.

Nem is MIA right now.

Maybe Nem is just spending too much time with his new ladyfriend :neener:

DA/308 - A10's!!!, the last encounter I had with one was Danger Close over my OP...nothing like getting showered with hundreds of hot 30mm brass...except being on the HE/AP end :eek::eek::eek:

...uummm, how about two of them...

kmrcstintn - Yes.

I'll suspect that club members will find this to be an interesting thread...

This will be a good thread...IMO X42's/Ti/Sc's are the easiest CC guns...and while I have some issues with the ergonomics, the Glocks :)uhoh:) are without a doubt the best overall handguns produced so far...

And of course, no tribute to Jerry M would be complete w/o this.

I never get tired of watching that.

Bottom feeders?

We don't need no stinkin' bottom feeders! :fire:

Is this the ultimate database or what? As you can see it's hard to ask a question that has not been addressed...As DA correctly states it's the MIM situation. (not poor revolver hygiene as I was once accused of by... we won't say who...DA)

DieselvRR said:
Just gone one myself....anyone every try and polish the trigger since it looks discolored?

DieselvRR - Yes...but it is no longer a concern to me, a little wear here, a scratch or two there...it's all good:)

Holydoc said:
Just out of curiosity, why did S&W make the trigger so ugly on the little snubbie? I wish it was shiny or the same color as the pistol. I am always thinking I did not clean it good enough or that it is rusting.

Harvster said:
Don't know if this has been discussed (search doesn't like me this morning), but does anyone else think the 642 suffers from an ugly trigger. Among the luster of the alloy and steel of the frame and cylinder sits this trigger that looks like a hunk of cheap pig iron. It is dull and sorta brown looking. Anyone else think this?

glockman19 said:
I have buffed my trigger out with a dremmel with a buffing pad, lewelry polish and a polishing rag. It doesn't look bad.

Long Time

Since J, N, D all have been on the same page. Hey dudes.

*Welcome new members.

*The Ammo To Go arrived in 5 days. Thanks ATG. Nice job.

*rounder, nice Protector, now go out and get some racoon eyes on that cylinder!

Nem says:

I'll suspect that club members will find this to be an interesting thread.

For self-defense shooting, the revolver has been surpassed, EXCEPT...

It will be interesting to watch it evolve.
I predict some interesting discussions.

I skimmed it...SOS different title. My favorite quote by N-Frame....

I'm not dissing semi-autos. They are very reliable. I just think the chance of a semi-auto malfunctioning (for any reason) is greater than the chance that I will not have enough ammo with my wheelguns to do the job.

I have both genres and probably always will. I (feel I) have my wheel gun bases covered. I do feel compelled that my next purchase will be a mid-sized plastic/stainless .45 bottom feeding brass puker. :uhoh:
That said.....

Of all I own I am still most enamoured with the M&P 340/405 CT and the Winchester 1894 30/30 lever.
I keep them closest.

But it's the 642 that brought me here.

I just picked up a 642 last night and I really like it. I've shot several friends' 642s and 637s and I don't mind the recoil at all, in fact I think I like it.
Anyway while cleaning my new purchase last night I saw something that I wanted to ask you all about. When I checked the gun out at the shop, I thought these marks were just powder marks from test firing at the factory. After a thorough cleaning last night I could see that the finish has been worn down on the top strap. Has anyone else seen this on a new Airweight? Is it worth contacting S&W if it's abnormal wear?
Thanks.

2RCO

Very Cool Pic!! And a Mighty Fine 642 it is.

Welcome BigB. I wouldn't worry about that little blemish. Wait until you get 1000 round through it and 500 miles of pocket wear.

BigB,

I have about 50 rounds through my 642 and I have the same thing you do. Not quite as bad though. I actually came here looking for info on it and ran into your post.

Does any one know if this is normal for 642's? I did not think they had problems with flame cutting.

Thanks,

Person

I would have to say that the wear in that picture is do to the fact that the finish on the newer 642s is pretty bad it wears off quick from my experience with it. What you have there looks like it came from the hot gas coming from the gap between the barrel and the cylinder.

Big B, 2RCO, Person, jhco - Welcome to the 642 Club.

Camjr - hey...:)

Nem - The LCR is quite interesting but has a long way to go before I would consider it for CC. I have not fired one yet, handled one for a few minutes, It seems OK, we will see. The traditional Ruger products are quite excellent.

Big B, Person - I take it from your post that this is a NITB gun. This type of damage is not consistent with a new gun or flame front erosion. I also see some damage in the crane recess area and some roughness on the forcing cone that is probably due to poor cylinder/yoke fitting. Inspect the fitting of these parts and the clearance between the cylinder and forcing cone and the face of the cylinder for contact wear. The top strap damage appears to be mechanical damage. It is possible it left the factory in this condition, or ?...

Flame cutting does not appear to be a significant issue in the X42's, but can be with excessive cyl/forcing cone gap.

You can expect finish damage in this area due to use and flame/gas heat :fire:, however it normally starts as a small area in the middle of the strap and slowly extends outward in both directions and can be considered normal wear and tear. Both my clearcoat 642 and non-clearcoat 442 exhibit this wear.

In your case the news is good either way...If the fitting and cylinder gap are OK at this point the damage is cosmetic only and as DA indicated, is not an issue. If there is a fit/alignment issue it can be easily corrected.

At any rate S&W has excellent warranty service and free shipping both ways. It is unfortunate that some guns get shipped in this condition but it happens, we have seen all manner of problems here but all have be resolved by the company.

S&W is aware of the limitations of the 642 clearcoat finish (which is really quite durable with proper care) and will refinish under warranty any clearcoat damage upon request :cool:

I have shot about 200 rounds through my 642 in the three or four weeks since I've had it and it doesn't have any of the marks shown on Big B's piece.
