Welcome

jerico

I have had good luck dealing with these guys if you can't find anything suitable locally or if you want to try something different.

http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/catalog1/index.php/cName/pistol-ammo-38-special

They have 148 gr S&B wadcutters, 50/500 quantities.

I don't see any Speer Gold Dot for Short Barrel, part number 23921 nor COR BON DPX 110 gr Plus P right now. A couple of my favorites for personal carry defense purposes.

I wouldn't hesitate to carry:

Hornady Critical Defense
Remington Golden Saber
Speer Gold Dot
Winchester

On these pages. You may want to try several and see what works for you, more shooting fun the better. I used to keep records, save targets, see what worked and felt the best.

holster shirt

I just bought this shirt for running. I think is pretty cool. :D

http://www.511tactical.com/browse/H...irt/D/30100/P/1:100:20000:20600:20601/I/40011

For those of you who want a way to carry while on a run or just have a different way to carry this is a good option. The shirt is very comfortable and seems well made. My 442 fits very well in the holster pouch and does not bounce much while running.

Heck I might have to get a 642 for the other side. ;)

Just thought I would pass it on.

DAdams: thanks. I'll try to improve my skills with the Bodyguard in the next months. Planning on increase the round count to 1000 before the end of the year!
Handled a 442 at the gunshop yesterday: loved the gun (good fit and finish, perfect timing and lockup, zero handshake, tight gap, etc.) but the trigger was gritty and stiff compared with that one on my 649-1 (end of 80's I think). Anyway I wish I shot one Airweight some day!

Howdy, \
Been a year or so since I posted on this thread. I had a 642 and my wife glommed onto it.

Found this 442 in a pawn shop yesterday for a good price, so I'm back in the fold.

Iggy: welcome back and congratulations for your new purchase. Beautiful piece of snub history! Please post a report if you go to the range with it!

rodpumas, jerico34 - Welcome to the 642 Club. We are happy to have you both here :)

Diggers - That shirt looks like it has some possibilities, When I lose about 15lbs I might be able to fit in one of them :(

Iggy - Now that is a thing of beauty...I was perfectly happy with my -2's, and then you have to go and post that no dash...:cuss:...now you need some Buff Bore standard pressure to go with it.

Well that little rascal ain't unfired anymore. It din't even have a turn ring on the cylinder when I picked it up. I killed two rocks and sent a chunk of wood jumping with the other 3 rounds.

I reckon I'll keep it.:)

DAdams, have you or any of you other S&W Snubbie owners ever tried any Remington ShurShot .38 Special, 130 grain ammo in your guns. I found some locally today after a fruitless search yesterday.

My 642 arrived today but I wasn't able to get to the range with it. SOON!

Welcome, Jerico.

Welcome back 5-shots and Iggy.

Wow, Iggy, that's a beautiful revolver.
What a piece of history. What a find.

And in a pawn shop no less. Wow.

Iggy nice 442.

my wife glommed onto it.

Wow- someone else who "glomms" onto things. I seldom hear that term.
Thought you might be from the midwest, and indeed your are just more west.

jt1...:scrutiny: International man of intrigue.

Jerico- I am not familar with Remington Shur Shot, except in shotgun rounds.
I checked their website and saw nothing in .38spl in 130 gr. Hence I am not certain what you have there. Maybe you could post a picture of the box with the information for us to see.

Can I Play here now? ;- )

Hello friends and neighbors // First, let me thank you for this threads help in making my choice a 442 , 1 7/8" , prekey

Range Report:: I started with 30 rounds from 4" .22 pistol (triangulate)then 30 magnum rounds from 6" 357 (recoil shock) S&W 586
My first trip to the range with 442, using 38 special blazers. 442dayone.jpg

442:
COM shots are 15' feet, two handed, pulling slowly up and shooting when sights cross X.

HEAD shots are 25' feet, strong hand only (right) continual aim. I kept shooting higher till last two were off page. (shots 84 and 85)

Thinking about painting front sight with 3 colors for range 15':25':50'
Thanks for all the great info.

Iggy very nice, almost no wear. Are the CTC grips worth while?

Content: About two weeks ago I dabbed a drop of bright-I mean Bright Red on the front site of my 642 and a bit of white on each end of the rear of the barrel rail.
What a difference it made for me. Of course at 72 every little bit helps.

Finally "pulled the trigger"

Count me in as a new club member. I finally picked up a new2me 442-2. no-lock. It has just a bit of wear from carry by the previous owner, but heck, that is what i plan on doing with it as well...

Just picked it up yesterday and went straight to the range. It definitely kicks, but it is manageable with standard pressure .38s. The Gold Dot Short Barrel +Ps got my attention though. I will look to replace the Uncle Mike's grip. Probably with the Hogue Bantams that everyone talks about. I will be carrying this gal, and want to keep the grips small. It doesn't make for a fun range gun, but that is not what I got it for.

Trigger is great, not as smooth as my S&W 620 revolver, but I can control it OK. I will need to work with it much more to make sure I get those 5" groups at 7 to 10 yards while shooting rapidly.

Amazing thing was that after I shot 30 rounds through the new 442, I took out my S&W 620. My groups were tighter than usual at 7 to 10 yards and I picked up the sights really quickly during rapid fire.

I think that getting good with this new j-frame will really improve my all around shooting skills. But it will take time. I spent a good deal of time at the range loading 2 spent casings and 3 live rounds. I wouldn't look at the cylinder when I loaded it up, so I didn't know if the gun would go bang when i pulled the trigger. I started to flinch a little bit, something I don't do with my 620. I need to be careful and not develop any bad habits.

I ordered the Mika round cut for pocket carry(up to 16 week wait :what:) and I already have a Blackhawk Speed OWB holster.

jt1: wow! Your italian is a bit rusty but perfectly understandable. Probably better than my english! I do have a temptation to sold my L-frame (with the lock) to buy a brand new J-frame (a no-lock one) but my father and also the guy at the gun shop (against his own business) told me it is a waste.
Since you have both the 642 and 442, which is the one you carry the most and which one has, in your experience, the most durable finish?

Best regards, 5-SHOTS.

Content, Laser grips are a good idea. They can help you see what you are doing right and doing wrong. They are not cheap though. I use orange nailpolish on the front sights. It is easy to apply and easy to remove.

Damn Iggy I'm jealous. I'd love to find a non-ILS 442 to compliment my 642.

With respect to ammo, seems like ammo-to-go has the Nyclads back in stock if anyone is interested in a non-+P round. I figure those will still be my carry round until "winter" sets in in SE Texas. Then I'll probably go back to the BB "standard pressure" 158 gr SWCHP round, when people are more layered up.

Hello friends and neighbors // I like the nail polish idea.
Easy to change or refresh.
I'll ask my niece if they make a glow in the dark type of nail polish.
The opposing colors, front and rear sound good too.
I'll check the range to see if they rent X42 with laser sight grips
Thanks All

jerico, thanks for the pictures. I found only one other recent reference in another forum thread asking if it was appropriate for a X42 (oddly enough).

The closest I see is in the UMC lineup...

38 Special L38S11A 1 1/2 130 MC and your is a 11B part number.
Since it is rated .38 spl it is in the rating range for the X42-2 so have at it.

Maybe someone else can shed some light on this ammunition?

I was referred over here by a friend when I informed Him I was looking at a 642, my first gun. Imagine my surprise when I saw thread one, with over 5000 posts, and thread 2 with over 3500, all on the 42 models.

As a newby, I apologize in advance for any dumb questions that may have already been covered and I am trying to absorb as much as possible from what has been posted already.

Lots of great info, and I am still trying to make my way thru it. I took possesion of a 642 yesterday and look forward to shooting it soon.

Sandpiper you made a fine choice of weapon. Enjoy. It is the untimate point and click interface, but when the SHTF, you don't want to hear the "click".

No dumb questions. Good folks on this forum. I suggest a pocket holster like a Robert Mika (I have used a Mika and a DeSantis Nemesis, and like the Mika better). I also carry two reloads in strips of 4 for ease of loading. YMMV.

Welcome to the cadre and when it comes to questions, you can certainly use the search function first then ask away if you don't get the answer you like :D

Plenty of folks to draw upon here with a tremendous knowledge/experential base.

Your personal experience(s) will further embellish and better the thread.

BTW where is the link to the Thread of Knowledge that kiNg fiVe put together with contributions from the corp?
