642 Club Part Deux

Vanderbilt,
I reread your original post and need to add that when I first purchased my 642 I was only shooting 50 rounds a session because after that I was just throwing rounds down range. My accuracy did fall off. With time I've moved on to 100 rounds before that happens. I may be able to shoot more now but am at 100 rounds for monetary reasons
.

Not to change the subject but today at 11:32 AM, I picked up my brand new 642-2 and I`m proud to be an official newbe of the 642 club. Putting an order in tomorrow to Buds gun shop for some CT-405`s. :D

MikePGS - The 642 has a clearcoat over the anodized aluminum frame, There is no coating on the brushed stainless steel cylinder and barrel. The 442 has no clearcoat and has a black anodized aluminum frame and blued (S&W calles it "blackend") carbon steel cylinder and barrel.

flounder22 - Congrats on you new X42. No rush on the laser, it's good to become proficent on the basic gun first and then add the CT's.

dad just picked up a 642 yesterday for $379 on sale. hes looking to get his concealed as well.

what are some good pocket holsters for the 642?

Chad

Nimitz, I think someone somewhere in this thread (or its predecessor) mentioned
something about a decent pocket holster made by someone named ... Mira.

Or was it Mita?

No, wait: Mika!
Yeah, that's it: Mika.

Roland Mika.

No, wait ... that's not right. :scrutiny:

Richard Mika? No ... Rheinhold? No, that's not it.

Darn, if I could only remember his name.

I'll bet if you read back a few pages, you'll find it.
(Along with a few other useful pieces of info to pass along to your dad.)

 ;)

For a Smith 642, which do ya`ll like best, Round or Square cut? I guess that might depend on what kind of pockets you got or does one just seem to work better then the other. Thought I would ask, before I odered one, Or maybe I just need to order both.

I have yet to find a pants pocket that the round-cut doesn't work well in. Coat pockets and such, I'd go for the square-cut.

They're pretty inexpensive, why not both?

Nimitz - You and your Dad are welcome here at the 642 Club.

davis513 - Welcome to the 642 Club and thanks for the link.

There are two pocket holster to consider. The Mika (round and square) and the Nemesis (the original, not the Super Fly, which I have not used but have heard only negative reviews) The #1 recommendation is the Mika Round Cut, here's a bit from a previous post:

The Mika has a looser fit and allows a full combat grip while still completely holstered, and always stays secured in your pocket during the draw. It has a reinforced mouth that allows easy one handed reholstering (an important consideration). The only drawback is that due to the above mentioned qualities it has limited gun retention, therefore I like it when wearing heavyweight or tight fitting pants that provide good support. The Nemesis is more of a tighter fitting holster that provides fair gun retention, but will not always stay in your pocket and requires you to "push off" with your trigger finger to draw, this precludes a full combat grip and it is a bit slower than the Mika and is harder to reholster. I do prefer the Nemesis when wearing very light dress pants. If I had to pick one it would be the Mika.

My Mika is square.

I don't carry it in pants
(just not my thing; OWB for that,
as I've explained in the past)
but it fits the vest pocket well,
and stands up reliably at the head of the bed
(also explained in the past).

But an even more important question is, which rnds?
___________

Opinion: anything from 125 to 158,
with a sure bet hovering around 135.
Got that optimum combo of mass + fast.

Im looking forward to receiving my Mika round, but im also considering a belly band (never tryed one but looks as it would work). Yesterday I went to the range, and the range was full :banghead: and told they we're expecting a class and would have to come back later. I asked if they had any GDHP short barrel (23921) and they we're out, but the guy behind the counter handed me a box of powerball Glasers and said "this is what we're all using", I wasn't sure about them and they we're $29 for 20 so I took a pass, with a little time to waste I made it over to another store (no range) but they had the Golddots I was looking for $24.99 box-o-20. I will try out the 642 and the Bantams this weekend with round and see how my hand feels after ;) I think I may have to buy a Steel version of the 642 or maybe a 442 for the mono grip I picked up last week :D

Just got off phone with Robert Mika and ordered a round cut for my 642. He said if I liked it when it got here, drop him a check in the mail, If I didn`t like it , don`t worry about the money and just give away the holster to someone else!!!

just got one and was going to ask how people like them and found this thread. I think I did ok

I think you'll find a large contingent of this club to assert that Robert Mika makes the best pocket holster out there.

I'm not asserting that's the absolute truth - there are other fine ones, too.

But a number of us have bought one of Robert's holsters, and have lots of praise and zero complaints about them.

Just a heads up for forum members.

642-1 No-Lock! For Sale.

Not by me. I'm not giving mine up for nothing!

It's at a local pawn shop in the Denton Texas area, and just came out of the lock-up today. It has a clean port job and a good trigger feel. $389 + tax

Normally I wouldn't bother, but no-lock 642's don't show up that often.

If you need more info, email me. I'd love to keep it in the club.

Hey Davis,

Not to poke fun at your expense, but Nem. has a VERY dry humor. He was messing around about Robert Mika's holsters.

(quiet laughter) good one Nem.

Davis, it took me a bit to get some of Nem's jokes.
Hope you enjoy it here in the 642 world.

E'trode

Pre-lock 642s are not too common because people hang on to them. I'm doing my part. Have two 642s, a 442 and a 342 - all pre-lock and not for sale.

... the proper grips ...
It's all about control.

Why would one put a small pack/saddle on a mule w/ an attitude?

...I think I did ok...
f4t9r - Welcome to the 642 Club. We are happy to have you here. As you can see, you did good. (S&W, a value at any price)

rd, ranger - I had a lead on a 442 no dash, but the seller did not show for the meet, and now is not responding to email :( (Too bad the one in TX has a port job)

Woody - You should have no problem with the Bantams and Golddots, just get a really good grip and point...In my experience the Glasers are too inconsistent to consider as as carry round, as are any of the pre-frag rounds currently offered.

...has a VERY dry humor...
E'trode - Dry humor?, Nem?, I think he was quite serious (he is on the downhill side, you know :neener: )

I've been found out. My real name is Nem V. Tocyst, where V is for (extra dry) Vermouth. :p

<laughs>

I keep telling myself that about work: I'm going to be able to take a day off soon.

<Repeat 210 times, once a day everyday since my last day off>

But every time I get half way down, I realize that the downside is just the upside in reverse, so I turn around and go back up again.

When I get to the top and start down the other side, I get half way down and realize .... oh, you get it. :scrutiny:

:D
