Marvin KNox - Here is the speed strip link:

http://www.thehighroad.org/showpost.php?p=3323146&postcount=2727

I'm up to around 95% on the first round now.

flounder22, Dirtypacman - You might consider these, I use them daily to keep in shape, quiet enought to use in the garage or shop. Great for QCQ Drills and point pratice. I use regular brass with small pistol primers.

From the website said:
For pistol practice, many people simply use normal shells with regular pistol primers. These make for great close-range shooting practice.

Hello to All,
Just bought a 642 ($426 OTD), and the Mika round-cut pocket holster got in today. Speed strips, A Zoom snap caps, and another speed loader will arrive tomorrow.
I've read from 0-77 on 642 Club Part 1 and am doing my best to get done with that and onto Part 2. Thanks to all the informative information here, I am better able to equip and train with this great carry piece. The first time shooting it at 10yds I was able to get 4" groups, so I have some work to do as I am more practiced with my XD40 sub.
I just wanted to tell everyone thank you for all the great reading. It gives me something to do while sitting the Duty Desk and I get a little smarter every time.
I look forward to reading more as time goes by. USAF07, OUT.

Welcome to the club, USAF07, and to THR. We're happy to have you.
Sounds like you did this the right way: got the gun, got the Mika, got the speed strips, snap caps and a speed loader.
Reading the club part 1. Good job. Carry on.

And about those 4" groups at 10 yds: some club members would love to have 4" groups at 10 yds. :scrutiny:

Not me, of course. I'm happy with my 10 yd 1" groups.

(Believe that? Good. I've got a great piece of property for sale just a few hundred meters from a famous bridge that would make a great location for a summer vacation home ... )

USAF07 - Welcome to the 642 Club, we are happy to have you here and thanks for your service. As Nem says, 4"@10yds is quite sufficient for the task at hand, that would of course be point shooting, would it not? :D Congrats on a good start reading the whole thread, everyone should, so much info. I refer to past posts on a regular basis.

There is an informative and thought-provoking new thread just beginning in S&T.

(Warning: the descriptions are fairly graphic
and disturbing because they describe gunshot wounds to victims at VT,
but there are lessons to be learned from it that may someday help prevent similar tragedies.)

The thread seems especially relevant for those of us that shoot those "under-powered" .38 Spl snub nose revolvers. :uhoh:

jt, Hey brother, I checked out the link regarding the wax bullets. Sounds like something I want to try out. You mentioned that you use it in the garage or the shop because of how quiet it is. Now, Im wondering if its quiet enough to use in the backyard without startling the neighbors. What do you think?....PM sent

Thanks for the information jt1 - also like presidente006 I would be concerned with the sound level.

I live within feet of neighbors and would not want to startle the sheeple.

That being said I also live in MASS where someone walking down the street with a rifle case is alarm for a news story.

presidente006, Dirtypacman - Shooting primer only rounds is not loud enough to require hearing protection, but it does have a report that is unmistakably gun fire. Too loud for outside use in a close community of sheeple? Probably. An easy way to check is to just make a few. (Obligatorily safety disclaimer: Treat these as live rounds, have a good backstop, a piece of 1/2 inch plywood works well, at ranges up to 25ft or so these will penetrate one sheet of 1/2 drywall ) If you know a reloader have him make you up a few cases or you can pull a few bullets from practice ammo with the right tools (this is not as easy as it sounds without a bullet puller). You can take a few fired cases and punch out the fired primer with a blunt nail or other object, insert a small pistol primer in the pocket and press down firmly with the brass on a hard surface, and fire it off. make sure you have a safe backstop as you will get some debris even with no projectile. you can use any wax for a bullet, just push the case mouth into the wax a half inch or so and twist. The store bought ones are just easier for me. Maybe some of the reloader have some tips about this for us. Let us know if it works for you.

DA - Sheeple, sad isn't it? But it is reality and I have witnessed it several times. I also know a few folks that have been cured of this ailment, but in each case it was the result of a wolf encounter.

JT & DIRTYPACMAN, After I posted my last message regarding the primer rounds, I went to a gun shop where a buddy of mine works and I had him take the round off of (3) .38 rounds. I explained to him what it was for and he wasnt sure how it would sound so he wanted to know as well. (He actually tried to convince me to buy a 22 instead..lol) I went to the range afterwards and I did a little target practice and also shot the primer only rounds. Exactly as you described it, it is not very loud at all but definitely unmistakeable as a round being fired for someone being nearby in the neighborhood. I guess the best way I could describe it is as basically like shooting at a paper target with nothing behind it. (That sharp pop) What Im going to do is, my neighbor is a cop and Im going to ask him for his input. Im definitely interested in practicing this way at home. Much cheaper than buying rounds constantly.

BTW, JT, thanks for explaining how to put a new primer on the round. You actually answered my next question because that is also much cheaper than purchasing primer only brass. Thanks bru-dah!

Also. Had a great day at the range today. I definitely need to go to the range more often. but given the last time I actually went to a range (20 months ago in Iraq before I got hurt) Im not doing too bad. Love the 642.

I also, convinced a lady to go buy one. She had gone to a local gun shop to buy a PD weapon and whomever was there screwed her because they sold her a .357 with a 2" barrel. That poor womans hands were red after only 10 rounds. She wanted to know if they sold the 642 in black. I proudly told her that the 442 is the black version of the 642. Thanks JT for letting me know that only a few days earlier.

Okay. Enough writing. NEXT!!!

Jerry Miculek

Hey does anyone know what Jerry Miculek uses to reload his rounds so quickly. Ive been searching through his videos and I try to slow it down to fous and even stop it sometimes but his hand usually blocks the view. His shooting is sick:cool:

Hey does anyone know what Jerry Miculek uses to reload his rounds so quickly.
Best as I can tell, given the near-light-speed of that reload,
it's an injector built up from a proton torpedo salvaged from an intergalactic space craft.

I'll bet even JT can't reload his x42 that fast with a speed strip in 2x2 config.

:what:

Just shot my new gun(637) on monday. 120 rounds. It went mostly well. I had 5 rounds that didn't go off because of weak primer strikes. :( So it's going back to S&W to get fixed.

A couple of things I noticed:

-Shot off some of my Speer 135 +P rounds. They weren't any harder to control then the normal range ammo. I did expect a bit more kick.

-Also, this gun got soo dirty. All the bullets were brass plated and it was only 120 rounds but wow. My model 10 doesn't get like this. Why do the little J-frames get more dirty? It did look cool dirty though.

Nem, youve got a heck of an imagination..Injector, proton torpedo? Geez.

Also, you seem to like to cause trouble amongst the "bottomfeedingbrasspukers" dont you. Man, I love that description

... you seem to like to cause trouble amongst the "bottomfeedingbrasspukers" [AKA BFBP]
Just keeping it lively in a respectful manner, Snr. Presidente.

It's what we do here.

;)

Do I win anything?

...even JT can't reload his x42 that fast...

According to my watch, Jerry can draw, shoot, reload, shoot, and reholster in the time it takes me to deploy my backup gun...:banghead:

Has your autoloader jammed on you yet?

...Yet...or..."Again"...:neener:

bdjansen - Bummer, but better to find out in practice. Want more "kick", stop shooting those girlie 135's and get some Buff Bore 158+P :D
