Why 1 7/8”

I picked up a 442-2 WL at a show this weekend $359.00 + $24.34 tax + $5.00 call ,when I get the rebate I’ll have $357.00 in it.

I was just wondering if there is a reason for the barrel being 1 7/8” and not 1 1/2”, 2”, 2 1/8” …..

Jt1,

I'm still here. Feeing like a yo-yo between the two sites .com & .us.

Picking up a Bersa .380 today for the wife. I can't wait to shoot it next to my j-frames.

Welcome to all the new members.

Glockman - Your going to love that little Bersa. I had one for several years and than gave it to my Father-in-law as a gift. It still hasn't hiccuped once. Check out Hornady's new Criminal Defense ammo - looks interesting.

rdrancher,

Just got bavk from shooting it. What a nice pistol. not one hickup, very little recoil, my wife will love that.

150 rounds and I'm a satisfied purchaser.

I'll continue to carry the 442/642 Glock 26 & Ultra Raptor. She can do what she wants with the Bersa.

mulletguter,

I guess that was just the way they build the first one's. S&W was trying to compete with Colt who intordues the DS one year earlier. they wanted to make it smaller then the colt so 5 shots instead of 6 and a little shorter barrel, which is fine nothing beats a s&w j-frame for conceald carry if you live in a low threat enviorement.

be safe

mulletguter - Welcome to the 642 Club. Althought johnnylaw53 probably has it right on the barrel length question, I wonder if there is more of a technical aspect involved in the selection of barrel length such as being over/under bore for the ammo of the period?

ALL - Judging by the viewed count we still have a fair number of folks here, how about a ROLL CALL...if you have not posted lately for whatever reason, just stop by and say Hi so we can see who is at the clubhouse :).

still here and.... figured out how to shoot worth a darn! I put my hand a lot higher up on the grip and it really changed the way I was grouping. I only had the target at ccw test ranges (7-10 yards) but boy was I shooting better. I'm looking forward to trying to shoot this thing longer distances to 'one up' my buddies ; )

Where's the best buy on CT 405's for my 442.
For those who have them, how do you like them.
Thanks, Willy G.

I have them on my 642. I like them alot. They are a good teaching tool, they can help make you a better shooter. They also make shooting easier for my 50+ year old eyes.

I will be picking up a new 442 no lock on Monday. I've been scouring the 642 club for info. Thanks, I've learned a lot.

Those CT grips are great to show you how much you 'pull' your shots. I often skip a chamber when loading - and spin the cylinder before closing it - giving me instant feedback when I yank the trigger on an empty cylinder. And... no dependence on a battery - instinctive shooting at defensive ranges, 1-4 yd, is a learned skill. The CT grips are 'fun' of course... but I won't have them on my CCW - just me and my KISS dictum.

Stainz

PS I've been shooting my 296 lately for self defense practice. I look forward to 'just' the 642 again... I am too old for that 296's pain!

Have you seen the videos on the CT site, Quite interesting the way they use a laser for self defence at positions you'd couldn't acquire a line of site from well.
I see your KISS point but I'd like the option of shooting from around cover and the such. Willy G.

Best prices I've found for LG-405 lasergrips have been on EBay - I'd rather buy through a more gun-friendly venue, but my cost is a big factor.

I wouldn't be without them on a self-defense pistol. Not only are they a great training tool, but they allow more precise shot placement in the same time frame as a "rushed" shot. Remember, only hits count in a gunfight! The ability to make good quick shots from awkward positions is also not to be overlooked.

I have several pairs used over a few years, and have never had an equipment failure with the lasergrips. Their reliability has been very high for me, so while I'd never suggest skipping your training in the basics of non-laser sight picture, odds of them not working when you need them are microscopic. Highly recommended.

Newbie here. I am also new to handguns, but got the urge a few weeks ago, researched what the best CCW weapon would be, and came to the conclusion that the S&W 642 would be the best CCW weapon to buy.

So I went to my friendly neighborhood gun shop, and tried the 642, but was very unhappy with the small grip. I wasn't going to buy it, but then I noticed that they had one with a Crimson Trace grip and it was perfect, with the added bonus of a laser!!

So I bought it and became a member of the 642 Club before I even knew there was such a club. :D

Anyway, I love it. I also like the heavy trigger pull. Seeing as it has no safety, I like the thought of it being somewhat difficult to pull the trigger. The recoil doesn't bother me either. I actually kind of like it. I also bought a Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry II 45 cal. and that gun has a bigger kick than the 642.

Anyway, I love the gun and have found it to be surprisingly accurate, as the laser sight works great. I'll post pictures of the first target I shot when I get home from work tonight. I just found this forum, and it's awesome. And it's making me feel very intelligent, since I figured out the 642 was a great gun before I found this place. :D:D

Welcome, Nice choice. I have a 442 and really like it. What CT grips do you have 305's or 405's.
I just ordered 405's from S&W they should be here Monday.
Enjoy, Willy G.

Mine have the 305's. The 405 grip looks great, though. Let me know what you think of them when you get a chance to try it out.

Mika Pocket Holster

Anyone done business with Robert lately? I ordered and paid for a basic pocket holster for my 642 from him over 3 mo. ago. I haven't heard a word-emailed him this AM.
