642 Club Part Deux

Anyone done business with Robert lately? I ordered and paid for a basic pocket holster for my 642 from him over 3 mo. ago. I haven't heard a word-emailed him this AM.
I spoke with him on the phone yesterday. I had ordered a pocket holster through PayPal earlier in the day and he called to say hi.

He said it would be 8-12 weeks before I would get my holster. So it sounds like you should be watching the mail, as your holster should be in real soon.

I've been trying to e-mail Robert to make sure he changed my pocket holster order from square cut to a round cut. I sent one on Nov. 23rd. I ordered on Oct. 8th so I imagine he will be doing mine soon. I did call him on Oct.12th and spoke to him about the change, however he didn't have his ordering data at hand. So I sent an e-mail on Oct. 12th to confirm the phone call change. I guess I'll try calling tomorrow. I just hate to pester him. I know he's very busy.

Roll Call!

:cool:I'm checking in...my 642 now has a playmate, a Taurus 851. So that's two to keep us company. Currently using a Nemesis for the 642. Just got an email that my Mika is in the (USPS) mail, so there's home for the 851.

Now all I have to do is get a third snubbie to use as a reload:what: and I'll be set! Woo. Hoo.

I called Robert about changing my pocket holster from square cut to a round cut. He's probably too busy to answer the e-mails. Anyway, I ordered my holster on Oct. 8th. When I called this morning he said it would be about 3 weeks longer to wait. Nice to see that even with the stinky economy a good product still is in demand. And, that a good guy is doing ok.

I received my CT 405's the other day, I'm trying to get used to them, they're thinner than the stock Uncle Mikes and don't have the finger splitter. It's real easy to press the laser button so
I'll turn it off while getting accustomed to it. It still fits in the pocket fine and the rubber on the back stops just about half way down the back grip, it helps for concealment. It'll take some time to get use to but I like it so far.
I think 305's may to big for pocket carry, not sure about IWB.
405's IWB just plain disappears. Willy G.

price check on a 442

There is a 442-1 for sale. about 11 years old with very few rounds thru it. No box or papers, is it worth $315 ? its suppose to be in great shape and I checked and its ratred for P+. thanks

went out to a DNR range today.... minimum distance was 25 yards.... all shots seemed to be on the target!!! Ok, maybe they weren't in the x ring, but hell, I couldn't see the x ring! Very pleased

I ran about 50 rounds through my 642 this weekend. It didn't kick nearly as badly as I was led to believe, it was actually quite controllable. I love how it disappears into my pocket with an Uncle Mike's pocket holster, I carry it all day and don't notice it.

Well, I picked up my 642 on Friday, Dec. 5th. I had already ordered and received my LG-405 Crimson Trace grip so on it went. The CT laser was a little off so it easily cranked in to where it belonged. I zeroed it at 40'. A lot of folks are complaining about the trigger on these 642's. I gotta say that the one I got is nice and smooth, right out of the box. I've been practicing my dry fire( I use A-Zoom snap caps even though S&W says you don't need to) with the CT grips and find it amazingly easy to stay on target while squeezing the trigger. So far it's been a great experience.:)

I found the 642 does not quite fit into the Uncle Mike's #3 pocket holster.....

If you look closely, you will see that the trigger guard stops the gun from entering all the way before the end of the barrel reaches the corner of the holster.

You can carefully pull the Uncle Mike's pocket holster sides apart (where the trigger guard goes) and very carefully cut about 1/4" to 3/8" of the stiching threads far enough so the gun will go comfortably ALL THE WAY INTO the holster.

Then, using heavy black thread and a heavy needle (and pliers), thread back and forth through the two sides to lock the threads and the sides together where you had carefully cut them back. After you do this, you will find that the gun fits a lot better in the #3 holster!

My Uncle Mike's #3 is just a temporary one until my custom Robert Mika's pocket holster comes in.

Thanks for the thumbs up!

Don't get me wrong, it did fit in, however, no matter how hard I pushed it in, the end of the barrel was NOT at the sharp corner, but was, instead kind of cocked on an angle by where the open side adjacent to the trigger guard would not allow the gun to be fully inserted. What it ended up doing was resulting in the barrel end to be about 3/8" from the pointed end, and about 1/2" down from the straight folded edge of the holster.

Like you say, it may be a fluke and the stitching just a bit too far, that I removed (about 3/8" of stitches).

Yeah, the Robert Mika holster. I ordered a round bottom and a square bottom, so I can have either, whichever fits best in whatever pocket I'm using.

Thanks for the thumbs up!

Just Wondering

Do the Pach's degrade in any way the 642's "disappear into a pocket" characteristic? I have a set of SS grips on mine that lend very well to concealing it, but little to shooting it.

However (as you can see below) my other 2 snubs - SP 101 and M85 have Pach's on them and are very accurate/shootable.

I thought

that the rubber Uncle Mikes grip that came on mine created friction and caught when trying to take out of my pocket. I bought the S&W wooden grip panels from their web site and the smooth wood is much better.

I shot regular loads, then Speer 135g Gold Dot +Ps (for short barrels) and I was wondering if it would hurt my hands. Not at all, so I kept the wood on. I am used to firing a 4" 500 magnum, though -- so maybe I was expecting a lot more recoil from the 642 than I actually got.:)

I have Pach Compacs on both my 642 and 640 and have had no problem with pocket carry, I am older and tend to wear my pants a bit looser than young guys. I always wear pleated fronts in Dockers or Haggars and deep pocket Cords.

Got my 642 this weekend. Shot 100 rounds through it. Like the gun. Not to keen on the grips. I will be changing those. ANd try to cover that exposed metal in the back. Still waiting for the paperwork to clear on my cc permit. Than I get to go holster shopping.

I love pocket holsters. Each one has it's own place - especially in different shaped pockets. Given the inexpensive array of pocket holsters on the market, it would be a shame to just have one, so I have a bunch. These are my most used holsters, and my favorites to date.

Mika Round Cut, D.M Bullard Leather, Uncle Mike's #3, Mika Square Cut.

Edited to add - Another favorite (not shown) is a nice RKBA Leather holster from one of our own, "GunNut", that resides full time in my Carhartt ranch coat.

Cool!

Thanks Inspector. I figure I am going to try a set of Pachmayr Compac grips on my 642.

The SS grips are nice for concealment but don't seem to aid much in shootability.
