@ Txgolfer

Those are nice holsters, Ive seen them before, but they are pocket holsters or hip holsters that arent concealed inside the waistband. Do you have any other suggestions?

Quote Rawb77 -"Hey guys, I recently mailed off my packed to the Texas DPS for my CHL. Anyone have some websites of places that sell concealed holsters for the 642? I tried to order from from Don Hume but they were supposidly backordered 12-14 weeks.

If someone could shout off a few sites/retailers that would be helpful. I'm lookin for an inside waist holster that clips or fastens to your belt.

Something similar to:"

Rawb77,

Since the picture in your post comes from Gunners Alley, I assume you tried G-A. I've ordered a half dozen or so Don Hume holsters from them. G-A is usually a few dollars cheaper including shipping and sometimes they were quite a bit quicker than Don Hume's quoted time. Usually the holsters come quicker than the times quoted but in the current gun buying frenzy, who knows? If nothing else, you may want to pickup one of the cheaper nylon holsters at a local store and use it until the Don Hume comes in. I'm convinced the Don Humes are the best IWB for the money.

No i hadnt seen Gunners Alley! I found the Holster there...not sure if its in stock. (I like it when a store will post if it is or not)

Well here goes! The Don Hume, H715M-WC IWB Holster for a S&W J frame revolver with 2 inch barrel...*clicks to order*

Hello Everybody

I am a 54 year old man who just recently purchased a new 642. It is my first firearm of any type. I'm glad I discovered this forum and I look forward to all the useful information to be gained here...now where do I start?

... now where do I start?

Er, I mean, the x42.

As always, riding high on my right side.

I would recomend you start out shooting 148gr wadcutters. You can buy them from Mastercast.net at a pretty good price. Shooting + p loads can really beat up your hand. I'll shoot just a cylinder or two of my carry load at the end of my range vist.

The 642 is a fine carry gun. with a little practice it can be suprisingly accurate.

RAWB 77 I have a crossbreed supertuck IWB that I carry my 642 in. Once it is broken in you will hardly know you are carrying.

Nem, What great times.

Here's a recap of where we started and where we are today.

(Unfortunately I have NOT included the posts from the 642 Club part Deux from the .us site).

A Special Thanks to FiVe, again, for starting the thread.

Another Thanks to everyone who has participated and helped everyone else by sharing experiences. I would not own a 642 & 442 had it not been for this thread. Next for me will be a Model 640 or 60 Haven't decided yet.

A Quick recap of where we began and where we are headed:

Welcome to all new members!

In an update to the Buffalo Bore offerings...I had the recent duty of dispatching a rabid (and large) tomcat with my 642. The animal was on the run, and my shot was from above and behind, so I was happy with a "hit" of any kind with the little snubbie (which was holstered in my front pocket.) The ammo on board was the company's 150gr Hard Cast Wad Cutter. The bullet traveled approximately 10" through soft tissue and bone. The exit wound was over 2" in diameter! Definitely NOT the "cookie cutter" exit that I expected.

Recoil from this load is mild - very close to that of a 148gr semi wad cutter. I consider this a great carry load for those folks that are recoil sensitive. Granted, a crazed cat is not a human attacker, but the end result was still pretty impressive.

RD, that's a pretty amazing cat story. How did you come to be the shooter?

G'man, no one's done a roll call in a long time. Impressive list, and impressive stats. Thanks for doing that.

Most Posts....Nematocyst ironically 957. one more than there are members.
Yet, I still consider myself the student here. So many here with far greater knowledge of th' little mule than me.

"Why, that Nematocyst boy, he's got the gift of ... I said, he's got the gift of gab!"

RD, that's a pretty amazing cat story. How did you come to be the shooter?

Hey Nem! One of the neighbor kids had seen the cat by their chicken coop and let our kids know about it. I happened to see it while I was working with my tractor in our arena and took the shot. I would say that hitting the cat on the run was at least 50% luck (probably more like 90% ;) )as it happened pretty fast.

I had just gotten home from work and jumped on the tractor to do some work before it got dark. Usually I slip the 642 in the safe and strap on my Ruger SP101 in a OWB holster before working outside. I like the option of SA for these kind of "opportunities". I guess that all that DA only practice and practice drawing from the Mika pocket holster paid off. :D

rd

Thanks Nematocyst

I took your advice and started at the beginning. Wow, the breadth of knowledge here is very impressive. I started reading at about 9 pm and when I finally took a good look at the clock it was after 2 am. I felt I'd just scratched the surface.. or maybe I'm just a slow reader lol. Anyway I'm glad this resource is available and I look forward to contributing in the near future.

glockman, thanks for the update. Nice compilation job.

Valley 38, welcome. We always like range reports.

I haven't been in awhile, but will next Saturday. I recently moved from FL to TN and have to go through the TN required course for the State CCW permit.

Shooting qualification is required (forty-eight rounds shot at three, seven and fifteen yards) and takes place at our indoor range

I've got a dilemma, wifey's b-day present came today. I'm off work and she's working late. I feel that it would be in her best interest if I take it to the range, ya know, to break it in a little and verify it's safe to shoot, etc ;) I mean, c'mon, who'd like for their precious loved ones to be injured by an exploding gun right.....RIGHT? I've read about those somewhere haven't you? Don't you think it's in her best interest if I take it for a spin first? Of course I'd have it all cleaned up and shiny before she gets home....I might even tie a bow on it. Put it this way....it's either a day of yard work or a day at the range.

PS...I believe she's still somewhere in the original thread between posts 200-300...I figure by the time she reads this one, the statute of limitations for her kicking my arse will have expired.

tommy610 and wrs840, +1 for the DAdams opinion (post #3075): the revolver on the youtube slow motion video is a 12 ounces S&W 340PD red ramp front sight shooting a .357 Magnum cartridge. Infact I can't imagine any .38SPL (not even +P or +P+) with that wild recoil.

glockman19 (post #3084): that's a great job man! Thank you very much from me and I think from the wole Club.

Best regards, 5-SHOTS

Add another member! Just picked up a 642 today and will be out shooting this weekend. (Assuming ammo is available...)

New member here, too! I wasn't sure about the 642... but it's a sweet shooter, goes right to my point of aim, points naturally for me, and is a lightweight little friend with 110-gr. Cor-Bon DPX +Ps.

Stumbled on a LNIB Mod. 40 Classic and it followed me home. I was always attracted to the "lemon squeezer" and thought this was my chance. I'm not normally attracted to the S&W Classics because of the internal lock but the Mod. 40 doesn't have one because of the grip safety. Hope to try it at the range today.

Shot about 50 rounds of my light target reloads today to get a feel for the Mod. 40 Classic. Because of it's increased weight (20.4 vs. 15 oz.), I thought it would be at least as comfortable to shoot as a 442. Believe me, it wasn't.

After shooting the Mod. 40, I fired 24 rounds through the 442. It was much easier and more comfortable.

The stock (tiny) walnut grips of the 40 were hard on the hand when compared to the Crimson Trace overmolded grip I have on my 442. It was also sort of a strain to maintain the tight grip to disengage the grip safety on the Mod. 40. With the grip safety it won't me just a matter of easily switching to a rubber grip like the ones on my 642/442s. It's going to definitely take some getting used to, if I ever decide to carry the Mod. 40. Otherwise it's going to be a "safe queen" or I'll have to find it a new home.
