At the latest Nashville Fairgrounds show I was fortunate to scratch one off my "long list", a S&W M-25-5 .45 Colt. I Bought from Kens's Guns. Ken always has more than a few desirable examples.
While poking around to see if anything else in his display was winking at me, I spied a clean 686 (I thought), and when I opened the cylinder to check the dash, I was surprised to see it marked as a 681. Now if someone installed the adjustable sights on this one they did one fine factory-quality job.
This was quite the surprise. I wonder if this was another mis-marked factory original.
Anyone else seen this kind of discrepancy. I have heard of other mis-marked guns, and while I wouldn't call the phenomena rare, I wonder if some collectors seek this type of occurence. The ones with "differences" don't seem to command any sort of astronomical premium of which I am aware.
