Not bad. At all.

Walnut, to my surprise. Expecting a severely beaver-chewed beech.

Has a forend splice, M39-style. With sharp fingers, but perfectly done.

Bluing on the gun is shot, reciever is in the white!

(This was meant to be a "project" gun. I have several- perfect- K31's that I've done nothing with but shoot & clean carefully. Even got the new-made perfect replacement K31 sling that a guy in Swissrifles.com makes.)

I was hoping for a worse stock that I could experiment with a paint or crinkle type finish. Instead, it will get something less tactical, more tasteful.

Grain is wierd but really not too many dings. Swiss cartouche perfect. In fact parts have a tiger-stripe grain. Odd but not ugly. Forend fit is of course perfect, in that it's a typical K31. It had a 2" red paper band around the forend. Strange.

Actually it's gonna be another good-lookin' K31. I cannot paint or cover this walnut. I may change the shade...It will get reblued, though. Mag serial matches reciever....

Thinking an S&K scout-type mount and a Bushnell Banner 1.75-4x32 scope (6" eye relief) recommended in another thread (thanks)....

This website indicates it's made in 1943. Hm, thought the early ones were walnut.

Anybody else get theirs? Thoughts?

And just think- J&G's CZ52's are on their way too.

Yeah. I just picked one up for around $130, but the metal finish is great, everything's sharp (I was amazed when I inspected it, after the Mosins I was shopping for) and there's some of the usual stock wear near the butt.
All in all, it's in excellent condition and I can't wait to find a rifle range near Little Rock so I can try it out.
Of course, this means I'll need to get into reloading.

Sandpaper and Tru-oil will cure the uglies... and Brownell's Oxpho blue.

Red-band is good... don't sand it out.

Isn't red-band mean that it was participated/used in a match?

Does it has any tag under butt-plate?

PS: I have a K31 Darrel's scout mount Karma in the contest section. What a co-incident. :)

<Isn't red-band mean that it was participated/used in a match?>

That's new to me- any more info is appreciated. I like the sound of that.

I took the red band off, but it stained through to the stock.

Will check for tag.

Anybody else get theirs?

K31 ID tag

It had a tag. How cool is that? First one I've seen:

Under the buttplate is stamped the year of mfg- 1943, and a "VII" which I'd guess means July, 1943.

Even the forend, which matches, is serialized and has proof marks.

I have heard the same thing about the red-tape id'ing the more accurate rifles.

I can't imagine how those red-tape models shoot...mine is sweet without the red tape. :)

that sounded kinda...strange. :p

On one of my Century 3fers it had the red band. Read on Surplusrifle that this meant it was a match rifle. This one was the worst of the three and is rusted all to heck. Also the bore looks to have been used much more than any of my other K31's Don't know whether to try and fix her up or just use it as a parts gun. I got two other K31's and a couple of Turk mausers waiting in line ahead of her:D .
