i have one ak in 7.62x39, but heres the problem, its an underfolder, this means no side rail, no side rail means no good way of mounting things like scopes, and about the only thing that works on a forward mount are red dots which are giving me issues due to the astigmatism.. i can build another AK, one with a fixed stock but parts kit quality is declining as the better kits dry up and since i now need to take a better focus towards optics, the AK just isnt the best for that

so this has me considering the now cheaper AR-15, but i dont like the ballistics of 5.56 and in most cases its not even legal to hunt with, i already have 5.56 brass from shooting it through my AK-74 (converted to 5.56), and i already have 308 components from shooting .308.. so basically i already have all the ingredients to make 300 blackout or 7.62x40WT.. plus the 150 grain FMJBT bullets are cheaper than any of the 6mm so... i might as well just do that to get a bit more out of an AR while still being able to swap a barrel and go back to the cheap stuff

Are you planning on hunting with fmjbt bullets? You asked what does more damage to a medium sized target, so I'm assuming you're considering that as a viable option.

6x45 would not be my choice for deer sized game and I have one. Can it be done? Sure. Is it the best choice in that platform? Not by a long shot.

it wouldnt be my first choice either, i'll just stick with 7.62x39, any other option to offer better ballistics in an AR is going to cost more than x39 ammo when you consider the entire loaded 7.62x39 cartridge is cheaper than even most your 6mm bullets alone.. i kind of would have liked to have these ballistics with the option to shoot 5.56 out of the same rifle, but its not worth losing the low cost of the 7.62x39 and the reliability of the AK to do so
