I am going to have to go the reform the .284 route in order to shoot my K31. My question is what type of Lee dies do I need in order to do this? The collet die the just sizes the neck of the full length sizer dies? Common sense tells me the full length but then again I could be wrong.

Thanx,
Mike

Why not just get the brass from Grafs? Seems it would be easier.

Now I see. They don't have any at present and it costs about double what 284 brass goes for.

What Oldnamvet said

Or you could get the Wolf ammo in 7.5x55.

I havent reloaded it yet but it shoots nice and is reloadable brass.

Get the Hornady 2-Die set. The expander ball is tapered to make necking up a lot easier (still use lots of lube though). I have the Hornady dies for 7.5x55 and use it to resize .284 to 7.5 and to resize native 7.5 brass.

Well, I'm up in Alaska and having live ammo shipped is a big expense so you can see that I need to take the route of resizing until one of 2 major gun shows and hopefully someone will have some available.

I use the LEE 2 die set. I did order an FCD for it, but haven't tried it out yet. The LEE dies are just fine for the resizing operation.......

You will need the full-length sizing die to form the brass, whatever company you get it from.

I know people who use the collet-sizing die to only resize the neck after the brass has been used the first time since it's now fire-formed to the chamber, but for the initial forming you're not only expanding the neck but setting the shoulder back a touch. So the full-length size die is required.

I just finished taking my first set of reformed and loaded ammo to the range, worked quite well.

The only brass my K-31 has known is reformed .284Win brass. I resized all of it (200+-) with the Lee full-length resizing die from the Lee 2-die set.

I split necks on 5-6% of them. The first hundred I just ran through with LOTS of lube. After I split a few necks, I annealed the 2nd hundred, and still split 2 of those, IIRC. So annealing didnt seem to make a big difference.
