I saw a little caliber converter plug for the Mosin which lets you shoot 7.62x25 ammo in your Mosin. This was in the latest Sportsmans Guide catalog. Has anyone ever played around with this? It could be fun, if it worked and was reasonably accurate.

I've used other types of adapters, and they can give decent accuracy. The issue with cheap surplus 7.62x25 is that it is usually corrosive primed so be aware of that. Also, I believe the 7.62x25 uses a .308 bullet that might not fit the standard Mosin with .310-.311 bore as well as a M39 Finnish Mosin.
I had a CZ-52 pistol and the 7.62x25 is a hot little round at around 1400-1500fps out of the pistol.

With a C&R license I can get a case of 1260 rounds of Tokarev surplus ball for $99.

There is non-corrosive S&B ammo available at decent prices, but not $99 for 1260 rds.

7.62x54R is corrosive anyway, so that's a wash. Besides being cheaper, it would also provide a very low recoil. It would allow you to shoot the Mosin all day without banging up your shoulder. Bet it doesn't feed from the magazine very well, though. :neener: I'd be very interested in a range report, too Riatac.

I have inserts for a number of other guns. Not for my Moisin yet. The ones that I have are usable for plinking. The issues are diameter and the long jump to the rifling and the over sized bore. I'd not buy a lot of ammo until I was sure that the insert provides usable accuracy.

I use a few in .32, be it acp, S&W, Colt ...dont matter its pretty universal. When I get some , Im gonna try 7.62X38r through it, as I shoot those other calibers through my '95 Nagant pistol, and other small .32's I collect.
Makes for a good survival type rifle, or at least multi use. Good to about 75 yards through my '91, and ony about 40 through my M-39, and then they keyhole. Just gotta be close.
VERY Quiet with .32S&W, like "Poof!" insteda BANG!

Great for Bunnies in the willows, and load em single shot, I carry 4 (Thats all I got ~~LOL!!~~~) 'cause reloading is on the slow side.
I also use the 300 yard on the rear sight to hit at 50 yards POA, imposed with a 6'o'clock hold.

Great way to burn up Blazer aluminum cases, that stick stick stick to my chambers when its cold out and its the first shot. Brass for below zero for pistol cases, if you can.

I picked up one last fall. I had it out once and the results were not as good as my 7.62x25 to .308 adapter. The 7.62x25 to 7.62x54 adapter grouped ~4" at 50 yards using Romanian tok ammo. My mosin will shoot 3" clays all day long at 120 yards with Hungarian light ball so this rifle will shoot a whole lot better than 4" @ 50 yards. My Mcace 7.62x25 to .308 adapter will shoot 2-2.5" groups at 50 yards with the same Romanian ammo. That being said, these adapters are fun cheap practice.

I had a pretty bad experience. The bullet shot once and then expanded and jammed itself into the insert. Took me forever to get it out and I dinged up the insert in the process, making it impossible to chamber again. Do not want.

Same thing happened to me. I used a long nail to poke out the empty case and ended up ruining the mouth of the adapter. The second one I had I used a thicker metal rod and gently tapped it out with a small mallet without damaging it. Got bored with it after five shots. Can hit 8"X11" paper sized targets within 25-50 yards

Where do you get these inserts? Ive found 7.62x54r to 7.62x25 but never anything else.... Im really looking for something to shoot outa my 30-06 but im gonna get one for my mosin soonish.

My experience with one of these was rather disappointing. My M-38 puts a factory Brown Bear FMJ within one inch at 50 yd; factory S&B through the adapter barely stayed on letter-sized paper at 25 yd. One problem might be bullet diameter...the pistol bullets are .308 and the bore is .310. Before retiring the adapter I will give Sierra .311 diameter bullets a try.

I got one of the 7.62x54r to 32 cal adapters from Sportsmans Guide. Its neat and works pretty well. The downside to 32 pistol ammo is that its so expensive.

I just saw the adapter for 7.62x25. Its on my list now. Cheap fun plinking!
