Oregan trail has laser cast bullets for 30-30 170g rnfp [.310]......and 32-20 115gr fpbb [.308-.313]....can these be used for reloading 7.62x39?

why low fps.....oregan has some 170 gr with gas checks.I would only use lead in my bolt guns.....with and without gas checks. Advise me,

better suited for bolt gun as no gas port to clog - you didn't specify.
C.E. Harris of NRA note published data for cast slugs from a Lee mold years back he experimented with in a SKS that did well - he kept fps down to below 2000.
I've never loaded them but have considered the plated slugs if prices on jacketed get much higher.

I've loaded the above mentioned Lee cast bullets in an SKS. I got velocities approaching 2,200fps. It's limited by case capacity and pressure due to the 155gr weight of the bullets, not the capability of the bullet itself. (I used the .311-155gr GC, not the tumble-lube version.)

I also loaded some of the Lee 122gr RN-GC loaded to about 2,200fps using some H4198 a number of years ago, but can't locate the data.

The main issue you'll have with the two listed bullets is going to be bullet profile and overall loaded round length to get proper cycling. Also the 170gr bullet to my knowledge lacks a gascheck, and would then be limited to about 1,700fps for accuracy. Might work "ok" if it'll feed. Not sure about the flat-nose hanging up on the face of the chamber. It's designed to feed pointed FMJ ammo.

The .32'20 bullet will result in a too-short round, and too high of velocity to give decent accuracy with the 7.62x39 round. I've got a similar design bullet WITH a gascheck, but it wouldn't feed through the action due to hanging up on the flat below face of the barrel/chamber...

Mr. Harris knew what he was doing when he designed those two bullets. I've also gotten outstanding accuracy out of the .30/06 with that bullet.

In the 7.62x39, I got excellent results with H4198.
Never experienced any gas-port clogging.... However, to prevent loss of cases, I often removed the gas piston, and used the rifle as a self-loading "straight-pull" bolt-action gun...... Worked for me....
