looking to get some brass case for my cz 527, looking at outdoor limited. i can get s&b fmj brass for $7.45/20 and ppu sp or round nose or $9.49 to $9.69. looking at getting 5 boxes/100 rounds. getting the s&b will save $10 over the 100 rounds. but these will be for reloads the ppu, is fine or deer.

should i just shoot all the s&b and work loads up, or use the ppu for deer now then load layter. the reason i am even over thinking this is, i think with the brass i am going to neck size only. they say the brass is not as good in the cip chamber, i would think neck sizing would help.

I have had a great experience with s&b ammo in every caliber I've tried it in, and have shot at least a case worth through sks rifles over the years in the 7.62x39. But I haven't reloaded any yet. I have used ppu and hornady brass, and another military marked Serbian brass that may have been ppu also with success in my cz 527. Several reloads of the same 40 cases, and I still have good neck tension and consistency, and no loose primer pockets on four or five reloads. Not a great amount of data, but some info, hope it helps.

thanks for the reply, would you go for the cheap brass fmj or the $2 a box o 20 more and go with a sp bullet. all will be reload,

Both PPU and S&B loaded ammo and brass have been perfectly good in my experience across 8x57, 30-06, 6.5x55, and 222 Rem. Since S&B are Czech and PPU Serbian, I would imagine they have experience with 7.62x39...

yes there fine brass, i have used quite a bit of 7x57 and 8x57. i am trying witch i should do. save some with the fmj and use the $10 saved for bullets/primers/powder, or pay more for the sp and have ready hunting ammo and reload it down the road.

I would not hesitate to use either PPU or S&B brass. I've not loaded either in x39, though. All I have used in x39 so far is Fiocchi from factory ammo that I saved.

The only complaint I have with S&B is that the primer pockets don't have a chamfer, they are pretty much squared off and are a little hard to seat a primer sometimes.

OP do yourself a favor and buy Starline 7.62x39 brass. Get yourself some 123 SST or 123 Speer Gold Dots both .310 diameter for hunting, CFE BLK powder 100% and the cheapest bullet you can find for targets. You and your CZ will thank me later.
the s&b loaded ammo is cheaper then the starline brass, there is not any difference to buy star-

So you want the cheapest ammo you can find for the brass then reload said brass and expect good results...ok if all you want is blasting ammo then just shoot the steel case stuff. If you want quality reloads start with quality components.

A high performance car is only as good as the tire under it. Ammo is the same concept.

the cheap brass ammo will give me nice fired or cases, that will put me far ahead of the starline brass. i can get the s&b ammo for 37 cents, it's $40 a rhondred or starline brass plus 20 cents for bullet 4 cents for primer and id gess 15 cents for powder. if anything the ppu and s&b brass is better, they have made 7.62x39 brass longer then most guys have even herd of the x39 round

I can tell you from personal experience Starline is better in every way than ppu brass, no doubt about it. I have no experience with S&B brass. If you were running a semi auto I'd say use whatever brass is cheapest, but in a bolt action why start with inferior brass. Plus if S&B or ppu doesn't last as long and you'll have to buy more ammo to replace it, are you really coming out ahead.

I have used S&B brass in several calibers. It is very consistent and holds up well. I prefer it to PPU, Nosler, Remington, and Hornady.
I haven't used Starline, so I won't get into that.

thanks i like starline but it does not make sense to buy brass for $40/100, when i can get loaded ammo for $37/100. ppu is my normal go to brass, the s&b is just cheaper right now.

Of course but purely cost consideration the ammo is a good but but there are other considerations too. It's your choice, I was only pointing out the numbers.

I've never used s+b in any caliber starline brass either but have used Pau in my 7mm08. It's on reload 5 and no issues so far. Buy the cheaper ammo go have fun and reload and repeat.

Brass for both is OK, I have about 100 of each. The PPU factory stuff is accurate enough for deer, but you have plenty of time before deer season to work up a good load. I will also admit I am a bit spoiled as to 7.62x39 brass. i have over 1000 Lapua cases. :D
Just noticed you mentioned neck sizing only. If so, get Lapua. You'll be glad you did.
I need to stop skimming original posts. Yes, for your CZ bolt, Lapua is still the best.
S&B and PPU are both quite good. I'd buy the S&B and shoot 'em up.
