Due to the price of brass that I can find and my reluctance to dip into my powder just yet, I bought a case of PPU-347 M1 Garand ammo at SGAmmo for about $60-$70less than I can currently reload for with new components and 150 FMJ's.

I have used PPU brass in in bolt action rifles with really great results, but never in a semiauto. I usually get 5 loads out of Winchester brass in the M1 in the past and I was curious as to what others may be getting out of PPU. I minimally resize the case and it is a very tight chamber, so the reason for tossing them is loose pockets.

Anyone used this ammunition? Last I checked Federal was the only company to offer M1 ammo. But it seems now that PPU, Hornady, and Winchester have joined in too.

I've loaded some, but not sure how they've held up. In general, the PPU that I've loaded has worked fine. I have some .223 cases with three firings on them. No signs of stress, primer pockets remain tight.

The reason I even ask is someone on another forum mentioned it was softer brass. I have used Federal that was very soft. All my experience with PPU has been excellent, just never in semi auto.

"another forum".

Actually unless it was the CMP forum, I take the rest with a grain of salt. Too many good resources on this one (I am not one).

PPU makes good brass for just about any normal caliber, and some oddballs, and fewer wildcats. I shoot a lot of PPU out of bolt and lever guns, revolvers and semi pistols.

Haven't had the chance to shoot PPU out of semi rifle before. I'm sure it will do just as great as all the other calibers. I think I might have to go check that deal out the OP found.
